AKA The Jack in the pulpit. I'd though I'd show you all my Arisaema. I waas wondering (as I just got these from a friend)  does anyone know reliable webpages for care on Arisaema? As I couldn't find super good ones. In the meanwhile, here's a few pictures of my beauty's.

Did I say sarracenia? No, I said Arisaema!

It is a dragon arum and the big striped "pulpit" is actually a spathe and near the bottom of it are the true flowers. The big spike or spadex is the "jack"and it is what holds the flowers at the bottom of the spathe. It is SORTA like a sarracenia only because it hold a VERY tiny amount of water, like about 1mm of it near the flowers to draw fungus gnats for pollination inside. It is a native to my area and is doing nicely! The plant is poisonous IF you eat it and the berries are like poison ivy (poison oak) if yuo touch them within 3 seconds you get a VERY strong burning sensation. But that a little history on Arisaema Triphyllum.

Yeah it is my new and most favorite non-CP. I love them! Infact I am in the process of digging up an area and putting peat and rotten leafes in it as they like acid, yet nurtient laden soil, I am putting rotten wood in there too, it'll sorta be like a compost heap but Jack in the pulpits will be grwoing there!

Don't suppose you know where I might be able to get some seeds in the UK?

No, I don't but try asking around, perhaps ask Mike King or RICHARD UK. I's send you some of my Arisaema seeds but I am not sure how i'd do it or how'd they fair over seas.
 
OK, after about another hour of digging and tilling soil I had the Arisaema site ready, I went and got a few more dead leaves and churned them under the soil and I got some of my grandmother's woodland soil (as she lives in the woods and the soil is VERY rich) and put that in next, then I went and palnted the pulpits but after I palnted them I said hmm I wonder........so I went around to the other side of the house and looked the the rotting tree stump and kicked it, my foot went through and I reached in and the most beautiful wet,decaying,extremyl rich, rotten wood grains came falling out.

 But I collect a paper bag FULL of them and went and dumped them aall arounf the Jack in the pulpits, they will really suffice them with the nutrients they need!

  I'm looking for Arisaema tortuosum, but can't seem to find it for any less than $18.00. I guess maybe I'm too tight.

  Those sure are beautiful ones that you just got. I may have missed it, but do you know what cultivar it is? I've not seen that color pattern in the wild.

Mine isn't a culitvar, as it came from the wild from my friends backyard. I probably could register it as a culitvar!

but for now it is just the plain old Arisaema Triphyllum.
 
Hi Rosie,

Ariseama are fantastic plants but are quite rare in the UK. You may be able to get them from a speacialist bulb catalogue but they can be VERY expensive and most are a little tender so will need a little protection during thew winter.
I used to grow two forms, one similar to NEP G called Triphyllum and one called Sikokianum. The first one was left at a previous house and the second one died during a cold winter.

I have messaged you with the address of a bulb comany that sells many species of Arisaema. If you give them a call they will send you a catalogue.

I feel sorry for you two that Arisaema are rare in the UK. Well, nananana!
