Peat with sand or perlite?

I think that the best CP soil mix is pretty much what ever works best for you. Most people start with a 50:50 or 60:40 peat:perlite or sand. Then as they gain experience and confidence they start experimenting with mixes until they find one they like. The mix will also vary according to the type of CP being grown.

If your mix is going to sit outside potted in trays of water that can get deep, don't use perlite. It floats. I had heavy rains last Summer and the pots with perlite tipped and lost lots of perlite. The sandy/peat pots just stayed there.
