I put mine a little above the Nepenthes. This way warm air will build up until it reaches this level (where the thermostat is) Then the fan and evaporative cooler kick on and refresh the climate. If you place it lower then the plants will be warmer....or set it higher...either one. Oh and yes the thermostat should be out of cooled air from an evaporative cooler and the sun this way you'll avoid inaccurate readings and uneeded electrical usage.
