My girlfriend's father has a growing interest in bamboo, and would like to grow some this upcoming season. I'm trying to help him out, and the first thing I have to do is figure out which species would be the perfect ones.
We live in New York, grow zone 6/7. He'd like something that wouldn't be too hard to winter over, so something semi-hardy would be nice. He's planning on growing them in containers, half-whiskey barrels to be exact. Something that grows 6-7 feet is fine, smaller or a little taller would even do, just as long as it'll do well in the container.
Then from there my task will be to find out where to get some nice starts of these.
Any clues what would be good?
