Leaf pullings / cuttings

Last year, across the pond, someone tried a little experiment whereby he put a VFT leaf pulling in an enclosed vial. Several weeks later, he posted a pic of the plantlet that emerged from this. I am trying to duplicate this with a bunch of 50 ml centrifuge tubes. I have: VFT, 5 types of Pings, several C. follicularis, D. binata, N. mirabillis, and D. filiformis in tubes.

Has anybody else given this a try?

I tried it with VFTs. They eventually rotted/wilted/whatever. I think the trick to what he did (if I'm thinking of the same thread) was very sterile conditions.
