Peace,

I get the impression then that it is better to underwater mexican pings than to overwater them......I learned that the hard way with one of my P.agnatas.

a whole year? how hot did they get? thats amazing

They went more then a year without water. They got about 90F high and 65F low.
I didn't think they would live.

That's a page right out of Joseph Clemens, himself!

jimscott, That was my inspiration:)
You can see they threw out roots looking for moisture.

That is absolutely fascinating!

They seem to be doing quite well.

Did they shrink? I wonder how they must have met their water requirements... Air Humidity?

Is that what those threads are? :0o:

I think that they look better dry, lol.

Farout! I've melted this species before, had no idea it was xerophytic!

Do these come from a desert climate?

Have you got them potted in pure APS?

Ironically, J.C. initiated a topic that advocated growing Mexican pings wet, year-round.

I used to keep them wet year round for about 4 years.
It works well for most mex pings but a dry period seems to work also.
now I don't water as much.

im still very puzzled. how do the look so succulent? where did they find the moisture and the energy to keep growing like that?

  • #14
My guess is since they need a dry spell they take what they can from the air.. That is what humidity is, amount of water in the air.

i knew that. but it looks like theyre growing like crazy

yeah i would imagine they are getting moisture from the air, the roots seem to be growing out everywhere similar to many of the epiphytic orchids which use that method of capturing moisture...
