Thanks guys,

Here are a few pics of one of these P. agnata x heterophylla, from back in early August, 2014.

Since then, this P. agnata x heterophylla eventually had its watering withheld and consequently shrunk back to smaller leaves.

Once watering was resumed after a few week's time, it resumed active growth again, making larger leaves and a flower.

What a gloopy flower stalk. That's awesome!!

I don't understand why I love things that are glistening and gloopy like that. But I do. I think it's ridiculously beautiful.

Here's to more Gloopy! ;)

Wow stunning Pinguicula! Great job at growing that sucker.

I really love the coloration and shape of the leaves, it's an all around winner I say.

Bonjour

you use just pouzzolane and river sand for substrate ?

you get this leaves color under artificial light ?

Jeff 2, yes, these plants are grown under fluorescent lights.

Here is a bonus shot of this P. agnata x heterophylla flower, from a couple days ago.

beautiful stuff.
what I'm curious about is how you keep those big lavarocks wet like that, do you water from the top? or is there an absorbent media just under the rocks?

Lava Rocks have pores small enough for capillary action to work meaning that most of the rock absorbs water so the plants can get moisture

  • #32
oh I know the idea behind it, its just IME ive never found a lava rock that will actually hold water, most of those pores dont actually lead anywhere so water doesnt travel through them. every time I have tried to use a lavarock to attach pings to I end up having to fill pockets of it with peat that would never get wet unless i physically poured water through it. the only part of the rock that would get moist is the part that is in water and maybe a few millimeters above the water line but the rest of the rock would be dry as a bone..this is why I started using soft granite.

the lava rocks in the OP look like the same red lava rock I use in my ping mixes, can buy bags of it at lowes.. and they don't retain water, for me atleast. thats why I wondered how his looked so wet.

Just a few inches.

Top watering or the tray method...doesn't really matter which.

few inches , but how many?

you use some pieces of pouzzolane but also river sand like binder ?

if you use river sand no problem with the capilarity , no

Man I have to retry that lava rock, use more sand or something because the pictures look perfect, very airy but still wet. maybe I got a bad bag or something.

Thanks guys,

Both halves of the newly divided plants have sent up flower stalks.
