First poster after this gets the last D. filiformis "Florida Red" pack. If you don't need it, don't get it. In other words, one pack left, first one to claim it gets it. (In reality there are two left, one for zac
I may have more seed soon, but I have flat run out of this variety. Congratulations TF! well, the ICPS seedbank helped decrease the store so you guys don't get all the credit :p

@ Joseph Clemens: The ICPS seedbank lists the seed I sent as D. 'Florida Red' and not D. "Florida Red"

Should this be?

I know, I already checked that out. It is a typo, probably by the person donating the seed.

Here is a link to a list of all the registered Drosera cultivars.

-----
It is quite possible that the D. filiformis "Fl Red" is just slower to get started. That's not unusual. I've had Drosera whittakeri seed that took several years before it finally germinated -->

It was worth the wait.

If I remember correctly I sent them as D. "Florida Red"--after your corrections.

Anyway, I'm not the one that creates the listings. I sent seeds in as D. binata var. dichotoma, and I believe they were demoted and added to the ranks of self-fertile single forkers...too bad. There should be some differentiation.

Also the D. indica "pale pink flower" was added as plain D. indica. If D. "Florida Red" gets special status, I believe it should too. There are just too many forms of D. indica.

Nice link BTW

---------

As to your seeds, maybe they are taking awhile, maybe your conditions aren't right, maybe it was a bad batch of seeds (probably not since several flower stalks go into a batch, and the seed is mingled freely.) Many, including myself, are having great success germinating this. I hope you do too!

Way to keep it going! I'm impressed you haven't run out yet... Almost done with the filiformis though I guess? I'd want to try some but the red ones always seem to croak on me during our cold wet winters.
Thanks,
~Joe

NO MORE D. filiformis "FL Red"
One flowerstalk coming though, :crossfingers:

If you guys still want to put yourselves down for that one, I will DEFINATELY have more come spring...your sase's might just have to wait awhile :-(. Otherwise, request the substitute variety.

@ Joe: They rot if kept too wet during winter. That happened to 5 of my mature plants...it was a good indicator though!

Is it possible to construct a sort of shed to place your dormant plants under?

@Joseph Clemens: Sorry, I must keep misspelling D. filiformis! I will improve that.

Actually I have plans to do just that - I've been meaning to build some nice tiered benches to make the most out of my narrow apartment patio, and I want to make the top level into a sort of cold frame to keep some plants slightly drier/warmer. Great minds think alike! :D

rball0406:

To be honest, those are some seemingly bad germination conditions. I'm thrilled the seeds are germinating!

@ Reaper...it takes time to figure out what works for you. I finally did. A 13W bulb, plastic bags, mylar, and plastic containers is all I need to have unlimited germination success...so far at least. Well, I do need electricity, unless I germinate outside.

In a word, too wet. It is best to start seeds in sealed plastic bags with a non-saturated medium. This way you don't need to water them! Also, before you sow the seed, firm the top of the media. Make a nice, even surface.

I'm not saying the conditions are terrible, I'm just saying it seems a bit that way from the photos.

Anyway, you did great for a first time! (I didn't know this was a first.) I didn't do any better on my first try :boogie:
