It'll be fine for a while, but plan on repotting within 6 months.... she will get rootbound rather quickly.
One of the first indicators is it will start drying out faster then it normally did from the loss of moisture capacity (relative to plant mass). Then it will start stressing from the yo-yo'ing moisture levels. However, H.pulchella is more forgiving since it has such small vegetative growth.

    Congrats!

One of the first indicators is it will start drying out faster then it normally did from lack of enough moisture capacity. Then it will start stressing from the yo-yo'ing moisture levels. However, H.pulchella is more forgiving since it has such small vegetative growth.

I know it's called sponge rock. We do not have any orchid stores around here that I am aware of. In the last year, I had a hard enough time finding horticultural perlite that was not the "Miracle-Gro" brand with fertilizer in it.
A ton for free-can't beat that, lol.

Aquatic plant soil, sold by a few vendors

    http://www.pondcare.com/Products/Pro...x?ProductID=20

Schultz sells it as well... but their's seems to be harder to find

and sold by another company for a different application under the name of "Truface" and some variants of kitty litter and Oil dry

But for that warm and fuzzy feeling and ultimate safety go with products designed for plant use

    Butch,

Plant arrived fine. It's potted and currently checking out its other cellmates... Thanks again for your generosity. Cheers!
