Recommendations:

Unpack carefully, cut away the box to access tape... be gentle and take your time.
Keep cool, 78f is considered a maximum safe limit.
Plant in a loose mix of LSF and perlite and bag until new growth is observed.
Top dress with live sphag if available.
Open bag daily and freshen the air.
Keep pitchers full of a weak fertilizer mix, 1/4th strength
Once new growth is observed, acclimate slowly

After plant has recovered and acclimated, move to more typical adult heli conditions.
Ubber bright, cool, humid with gentle airflow and a slightly heavier mix for improved structural strength and moisture retention.
IMHO a good basic mix is 1:1:1 LFS/APS/Perlite
Fertilize and treat with Trichoderma monthly, alternating biweekly...
(e.g., fertilize on the 1st of the month and Trich on the 15th)

Cheers'

Butch, really nice of you to do that. I am only posting, as I came home for lunch and wondered what kind of carnage was going on for a giveaway to take five pages, lol.
Oh and happy belated.

Cheers,

Joe

Take off the first 5 numbers that are spaced, they're the zip codes so people can track theirs according to their zip code.

What fertilizer do you suggest? Would crickets work just as well? And did you mean über bright?

  • #50
yep über, sorry gotten use to the yankee version :p

any orchid fert or the popular seaweed based product, im talking root feedings in addition to pitcher feeding with crickets, fish pellets.... etc

I got a ton for free at an orchid supply giveaway. I know Robert's orchid supply sells some, but his site is currently virused.

It'll be fine for a while, but plan on repotting within 6 months.... she will get rootbound rather quickly.
One of the first indicators is it will start drying out faster then it normally did from the loss of moisture capacity (relative to plant mass). Then it will start stressing from the yo-yo'ing moisture levels. However, H.pulchella is more forgiving since it has such small vegetative growth.

Congrats!

Thanks, I'll look for that. And a deeper pot, lol.

At that point (or sooner) I would also go
1:1:1
LFS/APS/Perlite
