carnivorous plants of the world -- unite!
Though I realize my timing is off as Halloween has passed … entrants to this giveaway must post a photo of a carved pumpkin to be eligible. Winners will be drawn at random. You may enter for more than one of lots of the plants. Should you win more than one, shipping will be combined. Photos displayed are of my "mother" plants. The plants in question …
Lot#1: Amorphophallus konjac – Two small corms (one about the size of a hazelnut, the other is larger being roughly an inch across). This is one of the so called “Voodoo Lilies” or “Corpse flowers” due to their flowers having the delightful stench of rotting meat. I grow them for the foliage. These corms are probably 4 years or more from blooming size. Supposedly, the corms are hardy to zone 6a though I have never experimented. I grow them as potted plants over the summer. In the fall, I dig up the corms, let them dry off completely, clean off all the dirt, and toss them in an open box kept in a coolish, dry, dark place. Ignore them completely until it’s time to pot them up in the spring. Corms are currently dormant.
Lot#2: Ludisia (Haemaria) discolor – An unrooted 6+ inch cutting. This is one of the tropical “jewel orchids” grown more for its foliage than its flowers. It’s one of the few orchids that can actually be grown from cuttings. Works well as a hanging plant.
Lot#3 Huernia schneideriana – Two unrooted segments, each approximately 3 inches long. Like its Stapelia relatives, the ¾” flowers are star-shaped and not so pleasantly fragrant. Unlike Stapelia, the fragrance is unnoticeable unless you stick your nose down around the flowers.
Lot#4 Haworthia attenuata – Plant growing in a 3” pot. Plant will be shipped bareroot.
Additional rules:
1. Contiguous US only.
2. You must be an active(ish) member of the forums, if you only post in giveaway threads, keep a goin’.
3. Winners will be drawn on the 14th or 15th and I will be shipping out the week of Nov 17. I typically mail out plants on a Monday or Tuesday (barring unexpected circumstances) so plants are not left in the PO’s “tender” care over the weekend.
4. You post up a giveaway sometime before the end of summer 2015 unless you have already done so recently (within the past two months) -- due to the cold weather coming shipping days are running out. An exception to this rule are those that clearly fit into the beginner category and have nothing to offer AND are active(ish) members (see rule 2).
5. Send a paypal for postage of $5.50.
