Ooh, and here's Sereda's blog:
mostly just aliens though, unfortunately.
and coasttocoast's summary- http://www.coasttocoastam.com/shows/2005/09/20.html
I believe in a lot of things that can't be proven, but I'll be the first to say that science and metaphysics are two very different things. Science is more a study of the material world, and it deals in evidence. Metaphysics is the philosophical exploration of the reality the material world is "contained" in (and beyond), and it's developed more through philosophical exploration, information from sources beyond (whose identities are usually unverifiable, unfortunately), and in a smaller way parallels with physical evidence, like the weirdness of quantum physics (e.g. the possibility that reality doesn't actually "exist") that seems to mirror a lot of ancient beliefs. There are also a lot of subjective experiences which function as "evidence" for the people who experience them (e.g. astral projection, premonitions, etc), but objectively can't provide enough information to be treated as truly scientific evidence.
I guess in a way you could say science is objective, and metaphysics is subjective. I haven't really thought about it.
So, we aren't really talking about science here. Chances are you can discuss it philosopically, but won't find much real evidence, if any. That's important to remember, or top-down thinking will threaten to take hold as the brain tries to fill in the gaps.
Okay, I know the passages. Translational differences can sometimes be confusing. The first part, as usual, Jesus draws upon everyday analogies, to teach his disciples. I cannot say that I fully understand it to explain it with confidence. However, my opinion is that He was encouraging his disciples to be clean on the inside, as well as portraying Christianity on the outside, with about as pure of motives as they possibly can be. Also, they were to subject themselves to that which would be appropriate toward that end. In other words, and in in our society, that would be like Jesus telling us to avoid pornography and other unsavory activities... AND... to replace it with reading the Bible and praying. By choosing to engage in healthier activities, our thoughts would be purer and hopefully our motives would be and what we do and say outwardly would be real and not phony.
The second part I think is related because it points out that you can't fill yourself with all kinds of worldly things and at the same time live your life for God. You create a war within yourself by doing so. Something has to give.
I'm sure someone else can explain it better than me!
Glad you understand jimscott . Aside from this, lets pray for the people in the way of hurricane Rita. Category 5, and perhaps the strongest ever.
maybe god is the universe.
That's kinda how I see it... two words for the same thing.Originally Posted by [b
It's called "pantheism", if you're curious (you probably already knew). Not that labels are all that useful when it comes to belief systems.
Some of this stuff is interesting... http://www.pantheism.net/
God is everything, and everything is a part of god. He is the alpha and the omega. I am beginning not to believe so much in any particular religion, because they all reach toward the same goal, the same point, but they just take different, yet similar paths there. our spiritual strength and knowledge is what matters. Strength is truth and love. Aside from that, would anyone like to comment on the physics and metaphysics that I mentioned? Theese newer discoveries could be the basis of space travel in the future.
LOL, Jesus expressed the sam concept in another way, in a different setting. Basically, the religious leaders, who were clueless to spiritual reality, were getting on His case becuase He didn't ritually wash his hand before eating. This would have made him "unclean". Jesus pointed out that it wasn't the washing of hands that made anybody unclean, but what was inside. Here's the reference for it. from Mark 7:
14 And he called the people to him again, and said to them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand: 15 there is nothing outside a man which by going into him can defile him; but the things which come out of a man are what defile him." 16 * [No text] 17 And when he had entered the house, and left the people, his disciples asked him about the parable. 18 And he said to them, "Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 since it enters, not his heart but his stomach, and so passes on?" (Thus he declared all foods clean.) 20 And he said, "What comes out of a man is what defiles a man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, fornication, theft, murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a man."
And in another instance, in Matthew 23, He gets very blunt with the religious leaders for their hypocracy:
25 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you cleanse the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of extortion and rapacity. 26 You blind Pharisee! first cleanse the inside of the cup and of the plate, that the outside also may be clean. 27 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. 28 So you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity
It has always been about what was in one's heart or eye or in their culture - the kidney - that is important.
Hey, I'm still waiting for dilithium crystals for space travel!
maybe God is a metaphor.
or maybe i'm going crazy and my years of wild hedonism are catching up with me
Sounds like a guy trying to back religion with science.
They say if you play a Microsoft CD backwards, you hear satanic messages. Thats nothing, cause if you play it forwards, it installs Windows.
