Here's my dog Taylee. She's an Italian Greyhound cross. We got her from the humane society almost 2 months ago. She was a Katrina victim in Mississippi!

Here's my sugar Gliders Pillowshade(boy) and PoppinJ(girl). Males have a bald spot on the top of their heads when they mature, it's a scent gland, that's one way to tell the difference between males and females.

Can you play with them gliders? Ferrets are really fun- but they are so problem prone... I'm starting to see that now with both my older ferrets of 5 starting to show medical problems (both tumers... different locations... different problems(insolinoma and adreniline desease)) They sure are cool lookin
smile.gif

Scent gland? do there have an odor?

SUGAR GLIDERS! AWWWW i love them so!
Adnedarn: heck yea you can! but they have to go through this bonding process.
Niki: are your gliders bonded with you?

Yup you can definetly play with them! But they're not as fun to play with as ferrets are. They are very neat animals. They are marsupials incase you didn't know (the mother carries her babies in a pouch). I used to have three ferrets as well but all three died within days of each other (about 9 months ago) because they all got a rare fungal disease
smile_h_32.gif
I'm sorry your ferrets are having problems. Adreniline disease is a big problem for ferrets as I'm sure you know. When my first one died I thought it was that because she started to lose the fur on her tail. The only time you can smell an odor on the gliders is when you stick your nose right up to their scent gland. Males have three, one by their bum, one on their chest and one ontop of their head. Females don't have the one ontop of their head but have the other two. I've seen my male rub his chest against the female to put his scent on her. I think they're really cool looking too. They cost pretty much the same as ferrets do. They like to sleep in a pouch that's at the top of the cage( they live in trees so they like to be off the ground). They bark too! They are nocturnal and can be quite noisey when they play and bark at each other. I belong to a sugar glider forum. Here's a link incase you want to check it out http://www.glidersanonymous.com/forums/index.php?

I have my male and female together cause I'd like to have some babies, but you can neuter the males if you want to house them with females and don't want babies. I don't think any vet will spay the female though, it's too hard. They don't breed like rats do, they have up to 4 babies per litter but usually they only have two and they only have about 4 litters per year. The dad helps out a lot with the babies, carrying them around on his back. They need lots of room cause they like to jump and glide, I have a 5 foot tall by 2 and half foot wide by 2 and half foot deep cage. It's a large parrot cage. They need lots of human interaction otherwise they will be very skittish and crabby. You need to handle them a lot and let others handle them as well. Once they get used to you they are very sweet!

Wow that's not good. Do you still have the other two? Just wondering. I wonder why she's like that. How old is she and where did you get her from?

shes older, not sure but 8 years is prolly a safe bet. no dont have the other two anymore, gave them to a friend. she is definatlly happiest by her self. which i admit is extreamly odd for a glider

Then leave in a few years and not be able to have them in dorms? No thanks Ill wait till I get my own home, even then I might not be able to keep them with what I want to major in, photographers dont make much money... I dont think Gliders travel well... neither do ferrets.:(

Actually Gliders do pretty well when they travel, at least in the daytime. They sleep ALL day. I got my second one from a breeder that came down from TN to FL to drop her off for me. The whole time my glider was in the womans bra, they like it cause it's warm and snuggly,LOL! That's how I bonded with my first one, I carried him around in my bra all day, he just slept. They do not poop or pee where they sleep so I didn't get messy. I'm just waiting for 0zzy to make a smartass comment here
smile_n_32.gif

0zzy: That pic doesn't show my baby crying for help! He's hugging me!
smile_m_32.gif

Nepenthes_ak: It took me months to get a pic of one stretching! You have to catch them at the perfect moment, so I just stood there with my camera up to my eye and waited,LOL. It's still a bit blurry but you should have seen my other tries

See I would love to get one, I just dont have barely enough time to devote to my Ferrets as it is!

I'm happy to see people like you nepenthes_ak
smile.gif
You know you can't spend enough time with a glider so you don't go get one anyways, that's great
smile.gif
Lots of people buy on impulse and that's not fair to the animal cause the owner can get sick of them and neglect them. I'm sure one day you'll have a glider if you really want one. You're lucky to have your ferrets, they are such neat animals. After my three died I wanted to get some more, but I'm still heartbroken, and like adnedarn said, they are really prone to illnesses.... is that a word? Illnessess

smile_h_32.gif
Maybe it's not a big deal and it's a skin condition or something. Get her to a vet soon, I'll keepy my fingers crossed for you and your fuzzbutt
smile.gif

Yes when you're retired you'll have plenty of time to spend with your new exotic animals...maybe it'll be a lucky sugar glider
