Read the whole thing. While it does talk about the weaponization of pox it really is a case history of the disease and covers a lot of the who's who and what is what of the pox elimination.

What exactly do you want to know about the virus Dave?

Well that is a whole graduate course right there LOL.

Try looking for info on Variola and monkey pox. They are very close to small pox and info on them is probably a bit more easy to locate since they are not the "oobie men" that small pox is.

It is a pretty straight forward virus all around, nothing too tricky about it.

Here is the CDC page on it make for some good reading.

Interesting reading if I do say so myself. I too have a strange curiosity with epidemic disease and some non-epidemic diseases like spony encephalopathies. Smallpox is an interesting disease as it has been such a problem for peoples all over the world, especially the New World after contact. If this broke out again we would all be in big trouble, execpt those of you born before the early 70's in which case you likely got vacinated and would have a better chance.

This book was recommended to me the other day by someone who's met the author a few times (they're both faculty of GMU). If you're looking to scare yourself, it should do the trick.
