    for some strange reason i have been recently very interested in Edgar Allan Poe for the last month or two, and in rereading all of his work I have come upon my offical favorite poem:

    ANNABEL LEE

    by Edgar Allan Poe
    (1849)

    It was many and many a year ago,
    In a kingdom by the sea,
    That a maiden there lived whom you may know
    By the name of ANNABEL LEE;--
    And this maiden she lived with no other thought
    Than to love and be loved by me.

    She was a child and I was a child,
    In this kingdom by the sea,
    But we loved with a love that was more than love--
    I and my Annabel Lee--
    With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
    Coveted her and me.

    And this was the reason that, long ago,
    In this kingdom by the sea,
    A wind blew out of a cloud by night
    Chilling my Annabel Lee;
    So that her high-born kinsman came
    And bore her away from me,
    To shut her up in a sepulchre
    In this kingdom by the sea.

    The angels, not half so happy in Heaven,
    Went envying her and me:--
    Yes! that was the reason (as all men know,
    In this kingdom by the sea)
    That the wind came out of a cloud, chilling
    And killing my Annabel Lee.

    But our love it was stronger by far than the love
    Of those who were older than we--
    Of many far wiser than we-
    And neither the angels in Heaven above,
    Nor the demons down under the sea,
    Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
    Of the beautiful Annabel Lee:--

    For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
    Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
    And the stars never rise but I see the bright eyes
    Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
    And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
    Of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride,
    In her sepulchre there by the sea--
    In her tomb by the side of the sea.

    -- THE END --

    Everything about it is awsome and perfectly put together.

    My personal favorite stanza is stanza 6:

    And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
    Of my darling, my darling, my life and my bride,
    In her sepulchre there by the sea--
    In her tomb by the side of the sea.
    it just seems to roll off the tongue.

    yes nep ak, I just wanted to see how much other people enjoyed his work as well.

    One of my other favorite poems of his has to be "The Raven" no doubt!
    But I also like the short stories ilke "the Masque Of The Red Death" and "The Tell-Tale Heart"

    Edgar Allen Poe lived in Richmond...his home is a museum here. There also was a cruise paddle boat that did river tours and dinner that was named the Annabel Lee but I think its no longer running. I got to be on it once. It used to cruise by the home of Jimmy Dean (of sausage fame) on the James but he complained and they had to stop taking the Annabel Lee that far down the river. I guess if you make good sausage, you can make anybody do anything. "Quoth the raven...nevermore!"

    But yeah...Poe was a great writer. The Telltale Heart.

    I believe Edger's mother as well as a few other women in his life died from tuberculosis(Spelling?) "The Raven" is a nice poem. I also like "The Bells." (That poem was so real I swear it gave me a headache with it's repetition) Yeah, last year in my english class we had a gothic poetry competition. Everyone really liked my poem alot. Gothic poetry, is hard because you have to make the eeriness be a little more subtle and pshycological, in order to get a good reaction out of the readers. Poetry is fun

    Not to mention that Poe was the father of the modern mystery story (The Murders in the Rue Morgue).
