I'm really sorry to hear this I also suggest that you go back home and spend time with her. We had to put our dog down 2 days before Christmas, 2 years ago. She was 13 and I think it was her time because everything just started to fail, all at once. I miss her so much.

A lot of people don't like to be in the room when their pet is being put down. I was there for my dog and also my cat who had to be put down. I wouldn't have it any other way. I want to be the last thing they see, the person who they know loves them. I don't want them to have to be in a room alone with a stranger who is poking them

Again I'm really sorry. I hope you know that you're doing the right thing, with her having so many problems already.

Yeah, I was is the 'room' only once during the 'put down' of one of our animals.
His name was Nugget and he was a golden retriever. He had pretty bad cancer and all of his organs were going. It was really sad because I was only seven and he was seven when he got put down. I agree with Trapper in the sense that you should be in the room when they're being put down, because really at that time all they need is you

Well, got another phone call today from my mom's best friend Mandy. She called on my dad's cell and wanted to let me know that mom and dad put her down today. I guess it was getting to the point where she couldn't get up, appetite was suppressed, tumors were bleeding/oozing fluids. And dad couldn't take seeing her in this condition anymore. So they decided to put her down. I didn't cry but I have no appetite, feel cruddy and just want to go home for spring break. The only other thing I didn't like about the whole ordeal was that I wasn't home to see her one last time. The last time I saw her was back in January...so I AM a little down about that...one last goodbye that I couldn't say.

I'm sorry to hear that and the only thing worse than being there is not being there.

I've had to put down two of my Greyhounds, and it sucked, big-time. The first one was the worst, as I've never had to do it before, and it was the first dog I've personally ever had. Looking back, it was the right thing, and you just know when the time is right. He had bone cancer, and had spent his last year as a tripod - had his right rear leg amputated. Believe me, that makes for a strange-looking greyhound given they're all legs. However, he was still the fastest dog at the dog park. But, it eventually caught up with him as they said it would. Anyway, the whole thing felt like getting kicked in the gut. I decided to get another dog right away, so my other one would have company. I'm now on greyhounds 3 and 4, and think I'll always have one or two. As bad as it is to put them down, it's worth it to see them every time I come home.

    I'm really sorry Dustin.

I was with Jonah when he was put down. It was a VERY hard thing to see...it didn't go well for him. So, sometimes its a good thing if you aren't there. You just have to take comfort in knowing that she's not suffering anymore and the right thing was done. You'll always have awsome memories of her.

I have had three dogs in my life and cried like a baby when I had each of them put down. It's hard losing a friend that has stuck with you no matter what. Time is what you need and eventually you'll be able to remember the fun things you did together.
