    Phone call

Boy its, nice to get phone calls from back home to exchange information and whatnot while you're in college. But, this phone call tonite from my family back home, has heeded some information i wish wasn't true. My father called me and one of the bits of information he had for me was he thinks that we are going to have to put our 12 year old dog down. She's been with me ever since i was a very young kid and to loose her is going to be like loosing a little sister. He told me when i come back for spring break, mom and him will have a descision made up, and if it is to bring her up to the vet, he said he cannot do it alone. So instead of wishing for spring break, I'd rather it be put on hold.

I feel for you bro.. several years ago I had to put down a cat I had for over 18 years. To this day I feel like I murdered my best friend. This is a situation I would not wish on my worst enemy. My best wishes to you and your family.

Thanks Steve, i know what you mean about how you feel like you are responsible, which in all entirity sucks. But thinking on the bright side, its almost doing her a favor because she does have congestive heart failure, unable to hold urine, a really bad tumor on her back leg and other fatty tumors on her body. The doc said that if she was soo old we could operate on her to remove the tumor and tuck her bladder, but if we put her under, especially because of the CHF (con.heartfail) she would probably go anyways.

Dustin...I know EXACTLY how you feel...having been there. Putting Jonah down was one of the worst days of my life. I took time off from work and scheduled him 2 days after his 12th birthday so I could celebrate his birthday and then have 2 more days with him. I felt sick. Driving him over there and being with him during was surreal. But I was with him when his terrier spirit left on its new journey. I still miss him.

If you can get home, spend some good time with her. There isn't much that will make the letting go easy. But at least you have a little time to adjust to the idea and appreciate your time with her more.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I've been through losing a cat 12, a cat 14, a cat 17 and then Jonah at 12.

It's an awful feeling and I feel sorry for you too. As bad as it is, be glad that we have the ability to limit an animal's pain. I didn't think so at the time or for a while afterwards, but looking back a few years to when we put had to put our German Shepherd down, it was the perfect time for him - not too soon; not too late. Too bad it only rarely happens that way.

Really, really sorry to hear that.
What a lucky dog to have such loving people...and I'm sure she'll love you to pieces no matter what decision is made.

    I know how you feel.
In the past couple of years we've had to put down about 4 animals and each and every one of them feels horrible, but in the end you realize that what you did is right.
