Someone made an anatomically correct Jesus out of chocolate and the Catholic groups are pissed. What do you guys think?

I don't see what the big deal it. It's a REALLY good sculpture. And Jesus had a penis. The catholic orgs are kidding themselves if they think it's "sinful" or something.

gesuss wasnt a man. cause all things sexual are sin, he had nothing there.... everyone knows that. ???

only pure way to be!

And if he was real and had a penis, we know a sexual thought never crossed his mind an 'tainted' him. Umm-humm!

Well I'm not Jewish so I don't pay much attention to the "sins" mentioned in the old testament :) That's what's working for me.

I just don't see what's to be angry about. It's art, not pornography. The naked human body is a beautiful thing (well... most of the time).

You know was an atheist assume- i was refering to the time when the church dictated everything sexual and thought of it as a sin. In the middle ages and stuff

They mandated the only acceptable sex was A) to make babies and B) only man-on top of woman - everything else they said you were going to hell for. I happen to know of some people who still beleive that sort of thing - those are the people who are gonna get most offended by a stupid chocolate statue.

Edit: ok so i still like to call myself an atheist even though im not a true one anymore. Old habits are hard to break, ok?

That's just the man trying to keep a sister down. Lol. That's just dumb.

Personally I would like to know the reasoning behind the sans-loincloth. What is he trying to say? Personally, I'm not too terribly bothered by it, but I would like to know the thought behind it.

Is there a pic of the chocolate Jesus?

If you want to see some amazing food art, there's a lady who makes babies out of mazipan. They are absolutely incredible with detail down to tiny fingers with fingernails.

I think it was just for artistic expression. Or maybe he did it to make controversy and make a name for himself.

Maybe "chocolate" Jesus is a reference to how he could be black. Personally I think he's Isreali and I don't know why everyone always paints him as a white dude.

This is the best I could find Suzanne. It's a crappy picture from the back.

It seems to be at best in bad taste (pun intended although in bad taste as well). The timing appears to be for maximum publicity. There are more important things to be upset about than an artists work. War and genocide for starters. I say ignore the idiot, he's just craving attention !

Well stated. I completely agree with you.

I don't see the problem at all.

1.) It's a sculpture, no different from one in bronze or plaster. Chocolate's just a medium.
2.) You can eat a chocolate egg to symbolise the rising, but you can't make a chocolate sculpture of the man himself?
3.) Easter seems to best time to make such a thing.
4.) So he hasn't got a loincloth. Who says he had anything on on the cross?

And here's an image - it seems to be quite a sensitive piece that a lot of skill and time went into. Granted, it's not particularly pretty, but I would imagine crucifictions generally aren't:

Choc Jesus

Why would either of you say it's in bad taste? Its a bad picture but in real life I'm sure it's beautiful.

Was the statue of David in bad taste aswell? Like it or not, all of us men have penises (penii? lol). Even Jesus.

You people don't give the Catholics enough credit. They're upset that the penis isn't larger.

Good one. I fell off my chair.

I think it’s in bad taste because of his timing, not because of the anatomically correct Jesus. In my opinion, artwork (this kind of artwork, not logos and fashion designs) is supposed to be something personal; a way for the artist to express and depict something (an emotion, idea, etc.), and should not be used as a way to become popular… Works should definitely be shown to other people, but not for the sake of becoming popular and getting money, that comes after people have FIRST recognized you and your work. It is evident that this guy created this statue on the eve of holy week to draw controversy and make his name known. IMO, this was a low-blow… if his work is that good (I’m not saying it isn’t), then he should have done it at some other time; when the sculpture would have done the talking, not the media.

Timing is critical in Art. Art is often time a statement about the soceity around its creator. I dont know this artists intention but I first thought it was commentary on the commodification of easter. Easter, the most critical holiday in the christian belief, has now become about chocolate bunnies and jelly beans. Just as christmas has become about Jesus being born from a fat man in a red suit. Also good Art is suposed to make you think not just be pretty or it becomes art.

Also Jesus likely wasnt black, he was likely a semitic person, which would not include most modern Isreali's as most of them are of European decent. He would look like what we think of as arab. This artists did a very western European version of Jesus in his sculpture so the Jesus made out of chocolate likely would have been white even though that would be incorrect.

I personally dont see what the bid deal is, though I do not consider myself a christian either, so that maybe why I see it as just a piece of Art.

Maybe the Catholics are upset because they gave up chocolate for Lent. Heading further down that path, a chocolate Jesus could liven up communion:

Minister: "Take, eat; this is my body, which is broken for you."
Man in congregation: "Ummm . . . could I have a bite of the arm instead? I'd rather not put that appendage in my mouth."
Teen-age son: "I'll take it, that's my favorite part!"
Man in congregation: "Oh, crap."

LMAO!!!!!! Whoo lmao. Thanks I needed that laugh lmao.

I've got no qualms with worshiping an Arabic looking/arabic/semitic/man. I suspect those rednecks who think all Arabs are terrorist will get huffy about it lmao.

But it's a depiction of the crucifixion - Easter week is the only time to unveil it!
