    Trucks

Anyone here into trucks and performance after market parts? Well heres the deal pretty much what im getting at.

May be getting my grandfathers 1997 F150 XLT Lariat Supercab 4x4 Automatic 4.6L V8. It only has 18,000 miles on it (never driven) My question is, I plan to have a mechanic go through and check everything (primarily the valves/plugs/gaskets and seals) For performance, I planned to install a Cold Air induction kit, and a performance exhaust.

    My goals:

    1. sound like a truck not a little car (growl like a V8) magnaflow, and flowmaster suggested

    2. have more "umph" like a V8 should have

    3. cost effective

    4. not too many parts for upgrading

My basic concerns are sound and performance. I have heard if you want loud sound go Flowmaster, if you want loud sound and performance go with Magnaflow exhausts.

The Cold air intake is probably going to be an Air Force 1 brand kit from Troyer Performance since that is is the same price as all the other top competitors and it yields the most improvement in HP and overall performance. (DYNO proven).

Well, let me know if there are any other motorheads out there!

    Dustin

my solution............................lift up radiator cap and drive Chevy or Dodge under and reapply radiator cap

sorry....................had bad experiance with Ford though there were 5 model years between it and yours................the 4WD unit on ours was designed by a retarded monkey.........busted 2 front shifting forks in 6 months on ok gravel roads without alot of stress being applied to the 4WD system..........bunch of BS.............

Believe me Sheridan, I AM a Dodge man. But.....for a first truck, with only 18,000 on it, I think its a match until I can raise funds for a Dodge.

another gripe about the new fords.....................half the freaking engine is under the firewall........i couldnt change the plugs on the SOB..................dang near couldnt change the oil.............the oil filter was up and above the front axel and an absolute B!$#% to get to...........with this new Chevy i can pop the hood look down and see ground, its rather nice..............course the '97 shouldnt have any of these problems as its still the older style.........

Use the edit button darn you! lol j/k

I know what you mean about the engine. Supposedly thats the way they are so you can put a V-10 into them if desired.

My oil is a breeze to change! The filter is under the driver side front bumper and the plug is a walk in the park to pull and drain.

There are plenty of go fast parts available for that motor...especially if it is the 32 valve version. I had one in my little Linclon Mark Vlll and had it up to 345 hp. That motor needs to breathe and a set of headers and larger throttle body will help a lot. A set of under drive pulleys frees up a lot of power.
The easiest horsepower per dollar bump is a chip from Super Chips in Florida. Easy to instal and you get a 10% hp increase.
They sound great with a good set of mufflers.
