I recently got some topo maps and I've been looking for some good places to search for cp's. I noticed that there is area about 5 miles around labeled "wetlands" about one mile from my house. I have been by this area thousands of times but it doesn't look like any cp's would be there.
Ever since I saw this area on the map, I have been planning to explore the area. Today I finally got the chance to explore it.
I got all my gear together and I planned to spend about half the day exploring. The area was extremely dry, but we are in an extreme drought, so it was hard to tell what was normally wet. Every once in awhile I would see a really low spot. I could tell that these areas normally hold water, but now they are bone dry. I could see all the "marker" plants so I knew that I was in a good area for cp's . First I found a S.flava that was growing by itself. No other cp's was around this lone flava. It's the closest one I have yet to find to my house. It's 1.1 miles away.
Then I found a four wheeler trail and I followed it until I found a little trail that headed deeper into the wetland. As soon as I turned onto this trail I found a great D.capillaris colony.
Right in the middle of this patch of D.capillaris was this plant.
