That "Archaic Book" is the same one You quote in Your signature--Yeah, the sig that goes on every post of Yours: regardless of topic. Such "Apprehension".

Many of Your Posts in this thread reference that "Archaic Book" and the "Belief System" that comes from it.

If You:

don't need to read an archaic book

then why are You such a Proponent of it?

You are looking very Foolish.....but that's what happens when You choose not to accept reality. :-D

I haven't been around here in a while, but:

What's with all the christian hoopla?

The bible tells You the truth:

John 4:22--"Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews."

If You are not a Jew--then You don't get Salvation. Period. If You are a Jew--then You reject Jesus as the "Messiah". What's so difficult?

Or...perhaps you misread and misinterpreted the verse all together?

"is of the Jews" != If you are not a Jew you don't get Salvation.

Since the KJV is giving you problems try the NIV, oh and also here's some context:

John 4:4-26

4 Now he had to go through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, "Will you give me a drink?" 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, "You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?" (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water." 11 "Sir," the woman said, "you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and herds?" 13 Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." 15 The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water so that I won't get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water." 16 He told her, "Go, call your husband and come back." 17 "I have no husband," she replied. Jesus said to her, "You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true." 19 "Sir," the woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem." 21 Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." 25 The woman said, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us." 26 Then Jesus declared, "I who speak to you am he."

It is quite clear what Jesus is saying and it is not that Jews only receive salvation.

If you will READ my signature, you'll see it is a PARODY against a conservative. It's called a joke. Do you understand this? Dr. Laura is a horrible person and a religious conservative who does something "forbidden" in the Bible. That is what's funny. Are you assuming I believe that just because it's my signature? That too, is laughable. You need to learn how to recognize SARCASM. I didn't even write the joke, I found it online.

I am NOT a proponent of the Bible. I don't even READ it. In the past year, I think I've picked it up once. Where the hell are you getting this stuff at? No where am I a proponent of the bible or a proponent of any one religion. You are the one who looks foolish. Anyone here can tell you I'm very liberal and don't care what anyone believes. I support all religions equally and think all organized religions are equally bad.

Are you starting to pull things out of a magic hat?

Right, and if You compare the NIV, Good News, etc, etc, etc to the KJV--You will find many nifty little "corrections".

Pick and chose the bible that suits You. Or--do Your homework and realize that with the onslaught of "technology" and information has come the ability to pick the bible apart.

Do Your homework and compare the various versions---they don't match up.

Is this, once again, the christian God trying to fix more mistakes?

You obviously don't understand the language of the KJV. Both the KJV and the NIV are saying the exact same thing.

is of the Jews
is from the Jews

The rest of your rambling attacks are just as much nonsense as your last post. You have made it clear that you don't know what you are talking about, why not take your own advice and quit making yourself look foolish?

  • #127
Because in the context of the argument I believe we were debating how faith alone is or is not all you need. I was talking to a Christian with a different viewpoint than mine about a religious topic, and I was speaking personally. Nowhere do I tell anyone to become a christian, a jew, a hindu, satanist or a wiccan. Nowhere do I tell people to read any book. I don't care what anyone else believes and I'd never try to persuade them otherwise.

You can take my words out of context all you like and make me look like a republican if you want. It's nice of you to show up after a long absence and start talking like you know me. The regulars here know me and it's clear that you're pulling these statements out of thin air. You look childish and uneducated.

Finish Your homework. There are many "corrections" between the versions.

Seriously, could a mod just lock this topic already? This topic has fermented so much that the trolls finally got a whiff of it.

  • #131
Now I'm a Troll..........:-D

What I am is going to cut the grass.....

Obviously you're the one with unfinished homework, believing that John 4:22 entitles salvation to Jews only. I bet you did real well with Shakespeare too...just in case you didn't know "thou art" does not refer to someone's art.

  • #133
Well, you come here after a very long absence, start making inflammatory statements and ridiculous accusations, then don't explain yourself when an explanation is given.

Maybe you've been smoking that grass instead of cutting it?

A very long absence is irrelevent.

inflammatory statements and ridiculous accusations--to who? Oh, christians. Can't handle the heat?

Explain myself? You are the one jumping from one foot to the other, talking out of both sides of Your mouth trying to be "Right".

I've been doing my "Homework" for over 20 yrs now. I've already forgotten more about christianity--then you will probably ever know.

There are so many "corrections" that they are not hard to find--just have to put forth the effort--well, and you have to Want to know the truth....

  • #136
Not to Christians. To me. Saying that I am supporting Christianity over any other religion, that I'm a hypocrite, and implying I'm conservative. I don't appreciate that, particularly the last one, one bit. I can say you're a zealot but you don't see me saying that, do you?

You keep going on about corrections. And? There are also lots of contradictions and even books missing from the Bible. What's your point?

I'm sorry, even as an elder I can't credit you just because you used the words "want to know the truth". You obviously don't want to know the truth based on the way you misread and misinterpreted John 4:22. Instead you are just another person who tries to tear apart the Bible verse by verse, ignoring context, ignoring time and ignoring meanings. Why? Only you "know the truth" on that one.

Obviously in every language there are words that have different meanings than other languages, and there are words that just don't plain exist. For instance the English word "do", does not exist in the Spanish language. Does that mean that every English sentence translated to Spanish with the word "do" is wrong? Absolutely not. The Bible has been translated the best it could with the limiting factor being language limitations. Does that mean the English version of the Bible is flawed? No, but if you care to "know the truth" there are many online Hebrew/Greek Bible references available to compare the verses. However I'm sure you will come back and say that the Hebrew/Greek Bible has been altered and doctored up as well right?

My original post did not mention You, nor was it aimed at You, torward You, etc, etc, etc. You stepped into this of Your own accord. Now You are whining. Sheesh. I use Your own words against You and You still whine. You have no intention here other than to "Be Right" and have the last word. Got it.

Emphasis added.

The bible was no doubt Translated via "Inspiration" just as it was originally written via "Inspiration". Are You telling me that God got it wrong on the first "English" translation, and that now its being what? Once again "Inspired" to be "Translated" correctly now? Oh, no. Conveniently God has nothing to do with any "Translating". How convenient. Get a Grip.

My original reply to you was nothing but respectful. You not using my own words against me, you're taking what I said out of context and spinning it in your own favor.

Once again, stop telling me what my own motivations are. I am not going to sit here and let you walk all over me with absurd accusations, insults, and inferences based on uneducated guesses. Oh right, to you someone standing up for their self is just "whining". Gotcha.

Or maybe I shouldn't
argue with an idiots, as they will bring me down to their level and beat me with experience?
Your words, not mine. Emphasis added.

Right. Got it.

How about You do a better job of keeping up with Yourself?

I agree. That's whay I'm in the casual process of getting out of this circus with You.

:-D
