NECPS Show

  • #21
The NECPS Show is a REALLY great time. One of the best things is that you never know what will turn up for sale at the NECPS Society sale table - especially from Dr. Matt of UCONN.

The plants people bring are just AMAZING. Like things you have only seen in books like Dr. Matt's Roridulas, Schloaty and Dave S.'s Neps, Jeffs Cephalotus's are to just drool over (mine are lookin' sooo scrappy this year), and Quoque's D. regia "Big Easy" which had the biggest dew drops you have ever seen - we didn't even think it was real last year.

Then for members........ there is the brutal backroom silent auction action. Sometimes Tony Paroubek and/or Mike and Richard (from that CP place in Massachussetts) donate items for that craziness. Dr. Matt sometimes donates a Roridula or two for the backroom auction too.

At past shows, we have all gone out to eat Saturday night for a raucous good time.

For people coming to the show with kids, Roger Williams Park also has a small zoo, carousel, and paddle boats (not sure if the paddle boats will be open). The Federal Hill area of Providence has some of the BEST Italian food found anywhere. For those folks coming from far away and not familiar with New England - about an hour drive from the show, in Connecticut, are the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos - two of the largest in the world with excellent restaurants and nightlife (www.foxwoods.com, mohegansun.com).

I can't wait 'til the show!! It will be great to see old friends and new faces, get into some bidding war action, and enjoy all the plants and CP comraderie. Until then, I'm pushing some intense CG animation deadlines and lots of late nighters...

OZZY - It will be awesome to finally meet you in person!!

Hey, just don't mention that I'll be there on the radio. I'd hate for the cops to know that I'll be there. I wouldn't want for any plants destroyed when they rush in to get me.

they need to time it better

believe it or not, we've put a decent amount of thought into the timing of our show. Any later in the year, and the Sarracenia and Dionaea will be starting to go dormant, and we have to start worrying about leaving tropical species overnight in the greenhouse. And there were conflicting schedules in the summer, which is why we couldn't have it earlier. So, sorry...we tried.

I think our permanent plan is to have the show the last weekend in September from now on.

I can't wait to meet you guys! I'll be the girl in the green NECPS shirt, looking very relieved to be done with her GRE.

For those who don't live in/around New York City, anyway. :poke:

OK, for a hotel we just did the PriceLine.com thing for "West Warwick/Cranston 2-1/2 Star Hotels".

Tried $50 & got nothing, then did $65 which worked and got a room at Courtyard Marriott Residence Inn Providence near the airport - not too far from Roger Williams Park. Looks pretty nice.

I just got home from helping set up...this is going to be an awesome show.

The greenhouse itself is looking really nice. The RI Orchid Society exhibit is finally in place! Plus, the room we're in is newly renovated. (The society breathes a collective sigh of relief that the room is finished!)

A few people started bringing in plants...it's already starting to look like a jungle.

OOO can't wait!
