need help getting an RO unit

Are you factoring in the shipping costs ($43 for the first and $36 for the others)? If you have return them you eat the shipping costs both ways unless they'll pay for return shipping.

You may as well go to Costco, Home Depot, Lowe's or Wal-Mart and get a unit for $120-150 that you can return for a full refund.

Damn if it works that's a really nice price! I got the captive purity 75 GPD unit at Marine Depot www.marinedepot.com for about $150-it was the best deal I found when I bought it. These all look really nice! I just wonder what the cost of replacing the DI is and where you get a 150 gpd replacement membrane (and how much is the membrane my 75 GPD replacement membrane is $90).

For ease of use I would get the add on faucet adapter for $5 they show in the first two ads this makes it easy to switch from water filtering to washing dishes and back to filtering water with the turn of a switch on the faucet head (you'll need a faucet with a 3/4" threadswhere you remove the original faucet aerator adapter - the head with the screen in it). I just upgraded to this type of adapter from the oldfashioned garden hose quick disconnect on my kitchen faucet. It's so nice!

Plus If you move, when using the faucet adapter there's no need to hire a plumber to install/uninstall the R/O from underneath the sink if you get the saddle valve and all that.

I need an RO unit too. When I was using a gallon or less every time I watered, I was fine without one. Now I use about 3 gallons per watering, so I need just pony up and buy one.

You ponied up pretty fast there... lol.

xvart.

PK,

before you commit, here is some quick caveats...

if your water pressure is not at least 45-50 psig then you will need a booster pump or the system wont work very well (very high brine ratio)

if you are going to use a captive air tank, the rejection raito gets worse as the tank fills and pressure differential across the membrane drops, to correct this a permeate pump can be used, this can also increases prefilter life dramatically (doesnt take long to pay for itself)

dont buy used!!

its best if you use your system daily, this keeps bacteria from growing in the membrane

buy a TDS meter and pressure gauge for troubleshooting probs and checking performance

test your water pressure if possible, then if you can... you will be much happier in the long run by adding a permeate pump

I have pretty high water pressure. If the water is on full when I shower, it hurts.
Honestly, I'm looking for someone to just tell me what to buy. Seriously, I feel like I'm totally lost. I don't really need some huge GPD thing or whatever, because I only water once every 3 days, and don't use that much water.

So uh...someone look on purewaterclub or something tell me which one to get lol.

excellent, most membranes need 50 or 60psi to produce rated flow at rated rejection ratio at rated brine ratio (pressure measured at membrane inlet, post prefiltering)

good deal....

FWIW my advice, if your budget will allow it... plan on spending closer to 200, you will have a system that will preform well with minimal waste water and have long prefilter and membrane life

just my opinion mate ;)

I want something cheap...thats really my only requirement. Advice please?
I want it complete too....I want to plug it in or whatever and be good to go.

What about this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/AQUA-SAFE-HOME-...ryZ20684QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Or this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/6-stage-150GPD-...ryZ20684QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

What's the diff between the last link and this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/150GPD-0ppm-Rev...ryZ20756QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

your first choice is a good basic system that a lot of CP'ers use, however... they have changed the flow restrictor to a much less user friendly design. Also notice that the prefilters are rated at 5 micron, that is pretty cheesey... rough on the membrane, 1 or 2 micron would be preferable (and more expensive)

your second and third choices are being sneaky... notice the key phrase "designed for your reef system" this usually means that there is no captive air tank or outlet valve included... the tank would be a substantial additional cost (the also do not include the pic of a captive air tank in the list of included items)

What do you think of this: http://www.purewaterclub.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=108

+ permeate filter + auto shut off valve?

Do I need to buy a separate attachment to hook it up to the sink? I don't see that on their site. Maybe I just don't know what its called?

I really appreciate all your help btw. Should've done this a while ago haha.

purewaterclub provides you with all the necessary hardware to hook it up.
a saddle valve...? http://www.naturalhandyman.com/iip/infxtra/infsad.html

this one has everything & 3.2 gal tank. http://www.purewaterclub.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=40

PK, that looks like a good system... and yes, permeate pump if you can

Whoah billy....do i need to poke a hole in the pipe under the sink? Idk about that....I gotta move outta here in 2 months...

can I just replace those sections of pipe after?

The holes that mine made were small. I would try to cover it with tape or soder it shut...
