As you know, I used to be an insanely addicted mineral enthusiast. I still have all of them...somewhere. I have a feeling the interest will be shortly rekindled.

You probably already know this, but be careful with your sister/dogs, because galena and vanadinite both contain lead. You wouldn't want to lick them, and we all know how tempting it is to lick beuatiful rocks.

Beautiful. I'm not a "rock hound" by any means, but geology is a very fascinating science. Since it is PAKs birthday, I think you should send her some of those specimens as a gift!

Oh yeah! Reminds me of my uncle's rock collection when I was a kid. He had a house full of plants and terrariums and one room with shelves and shelves of rock specimens. As a kid my favorite was the natural salt log that was shaped like Garfield the Cat's arm & hand. I always had to lick it whenever I was visiting and he would show me the collection.

Those are nice. Do you go to the big rock & mineral show at the Big E in August?

Oh yeah, I went to it w/ Nepenthusiast for 2 years, missed it this year. Lots of great minerals for sale & display. At the very end I remember we found one guy who was selling everything for a dollar, but I had already spent all my money! Isn't the connecticut river valley rock & mineral show in March this year? I used to live in one of the West Hartford suburbs so I'm familiar with the area. I'll try not to lick my galena, Nepenthusiast. I wonder though, is it still poisonous when bonded with some other element? Galena if I remember correctly is lead oxide or lead sulfide.

It's still toxic in those forms and Pb doesn't roam around in its pure form. People suffering from lead exposure have generally been exposed to one of the compounds. The organic forms are the worst.

Rock & mineral shows are scattered through the year, but none hold a candle to that one in August. I'm amazed at the things with $50,000 price tags. It's like a museum where every exhibit has a price.

Hey Nepfreak! Nice Rocks you have there - very shiny. I myself have a few hundred pounds of pretty minerals and fossils in my closet. If you ever feel like discussing it, I'll be glad to talk rocks with you and even get some pics.
