    Talking My Pineapple!

I know that these pics are very fuzzy but i just wanted to show off my 2 year old pineapple! I started him from a pineapple top from a pineapple i bought 2 years ago. He has very long leaves, from one tip to the other its leaf span is over 2.5 feet, and only like a foot tall. I am looking for tips on how to care for it!

Lovely plant. I love the pachyform base. I never could get those pineapple tops to work.

Cool! So that does work (for some) I had read that you could propagate it from a top but I've never tried it myself. Do you have any tips on what to look for when thinking to buy one specifically for the top? How to treat it before planting, do you expose the white flesh or just plant the top, etc? Did you root it in a terrarium under lights or...?

You have to be careful about getting all the pulp fruit off when you cut it and prepare it or else it will lead to problems. Very neat pineapple. Glad you had success.

As a tilandsia sort of plant would it do better in an epiphyte soil like a tropical orchid or regular potting mix?

Well, commercial growers plant this plant directly in the ground, so I would say that normal should work fine. The thing with this plant is that it needs direct light, and lots of it.
    that makes no logic

I just cut the top off leaving 1.5 inches of fruit on it, then let the fruit callus over so it would not rot, then stuck it into miracle grow potting soil!!

Good job on geting yours to grow like that! We have a bunch outside in our yard. There is no dirt here in FL. We have sand and they do well in it. We don't do anything special for them. The sprinklers come on twice a week, that's all they get. Good luck with yours
    Great Googly Moogly!
