I got five pounds of wheat berries for less than $6 from my local bulk grocer. If I'd bought a 25# wholesale bag it would've been cheaper, but I wasn't up to carrying that home on my bike. Mine is even human-safe. Hooray for the food co-op!
Davy - I've got more than a dozen four-foot shoplights running, so I've heard my fair share of roommate complaints. My last roommate liked to leave his window open and the heat on in his room all day and night (apparently to try to even the power bill out.) But it seems that my lights account for less than 1/4 of the bill, because now that he's gone, this month's bill was less than half of last month's ($240 - ack!) even with my new roommate's electrical consumption and increasing the photoperiod on my timers by about 15%.

I've never chewed the grass with the cats, I chewed Khat with a couple of the Somalis from work once, it was exactly like chewing and sucking on hedge clippings!

Holy Mackerel Joe! My bill was never that much even in my Nep days with the 400W halide, the six twin tube strips, the AC for the highlanders, and all the rest of the household electricity, etc. What do you pay per KWH out there?

It's eight to eleven cents a kilowatt hour. Some hours on each bill are at $0.085 something, and then the rest are $0.102 - not sure why. It usually breaks down to about 50/50 but it's never exact. Last month we used over 2400 kWh - this month was just a little more than half that.

How rude of me. Sorry to hear about your plight Kris. I hope you look into cat grass. I've had several roommate and roommate's-pet related plant fatalities this past season. (Most recently my Wollemi Pine, although I haven't given up on it yet.) I try not to think about it much.

Seedjar -- It's not that we pay a lot. They are just convinced that the lights account for a huge chunk of the bill, probably in an attempt to get me to pay more.
