2010 NASC teasers?

  • #21
To answer the multiple question about when the auction is: The dates are from Saturday, April 24, 2010 until Saturday, May 8, 2010. See this thread for more details. Also note that the NASC Auction forum is open so you can see all of the official rules, times, dates, etc.

I'll hafta bring my camera home to get some pictures of plants that'll be on the auction block. I'm thinkin' a lot of Sarracenia.

I am thinking I may have a few pings to spare. I may also have a sarracenia or two.

Aha! Thanks Av, for starting a teaser thread!

I will make more JAM this year.....I have maple syrup from my maple trees already... And, of course, there will have to be some of Dave's Firey Dragon Sause!

I also have to refurbish the bog in the front yard, so no doubt there will be some sar divisions.

this year i will finally have something to put up, a few of my dews. May be the same species but at least its somethin, maybe i'll have something else to put up too

In the hopes of getting some more of us to post pics, I'll put some up.

This one is a Nep. albomarginata seedling that pitcher is a little over 1" and the plant is growing fast. It will be in the auction IF my wife lets me put it up...the photo does not do the lip justice.

Next one is a Nep. glabrata. I'll take the time to get better pics for the auction, these were just snap shots.

Some, well alot, of Utric. graminifolia....I would say a 5" X' 5" section like the pic.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/39807474@N07/4523853693/" title="004 by randallsimpson, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4023/4523853693_d0eb3f5250_b.jpg" width="1024" height="685" alt="004" /></a>

Other possible things could include...depending on how much space I have and what I may bid on that I need to make space for :0o:.

Ceph 'Czech Giant' very small division
H. minor
N. bicalcarata
U. longifolia
U. sandersonii
D. prolifera

So where are the 'utric-philes'? Nobody is ready to offer up a division of U. quelchii or geminiloba or ....? :poke:

  • #29
Nepenthes from me, as usual.

For anyone NOT familliar with the plants that Capslock has......GET OUT YOUR CHECK BOOK! THEY'RE FREAKIN AWESOME!

Sorry....just had to yell that.

I can round up some sundews and neps.

I'm only going to be able to offer 2 dews this year. One is a small D. collinsiae "Faryland", which isn't all that common in the US and the other is D. x watari, which is a pretty fun one.
Pics of parent plants (the actual plants are a bit smaller):

and D. x watari (tends to clump pretty quickly):

I hope someone puts up a falconeri. I've got cash... :)

I could wrangle up some D. falconeri leaf cuttings, but only because my plant is still fairly... one-growth-pointed.

I'm hoping to get some of the last of the garbage out of my growspace (ie. Orchids). I just don't like them.

Aaron: What's the parentage of D. x Watari?

If it roots, I will donate a large ventricosa x xTrusmadiensis EP(a) cutting. It just keeps putting out more and more basals. With 5 growth points total, I think I can spare one for conservation.

Clue- I know that it is D. anglica x D. spatulata, but i'm not sure of the exact locations from each species that were used in the cross. This is one of Ivan Snyder's fertile crosses, but I've never managed to get seed from it yet, since the stalks always burn up in my lights...

I've been debating offering up one of my D. schizandra .... but based on:

- the level of interest from my recent pics in this thread
- I've got more than I really want right now
- the auction $$$ is going to a good cause
- I'd really like to see more people growing schizzies - they're a magnificent plant

It looks like I'll probably offer up one of the smaller siblings (it's slightly smaller but still something north of 5" diameter & it also produced a flower stalk this year).

Dash, you can also post an aucition for an unrooted cutting - clip & ship sort of thing. It's a hair riskier to bid on, so you won't garnish quite the same take, with only two days left until listing starts.....

OMG! ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT

I keep hoping that Utricularia species not on my grow list are offered, or any Genlisea sp.....

:)

While looking at my plants last night, I realized that Now is the time to be thinking about propagating plants for the auction.

Sundew leaves, taken now, will likely have a number of new offshoots and will make for nice auction fodder - as do Orchidioides leaves (per RSS) and Nepenthes cuttings & Cephalotus leaf pluckings .... Heliamphora & Sarracenia divisions can wait a bit longer but it's still a good idea to be thinking about what plants you might want to chop up.

Chop, chop..... :-O
