About 9 days ago I had a bit of irritation in my right eye but thought nothing of it other than allergies. The next day I developed a bad headache and again didn’t really think much of it because I am prone to headaches. Next day, developed a debilitating headache that felt like some of the migraines I have had in the past. I thought nothing more of it other then I really don’t like migraines and treated with acetaminophen. This went on for a couple of days until my eye started turning bloodshot and the area around the eye started to swell. The next morning was really bad pain just to open my eye and I went to the emergency room where the doctor told me it was Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis). I knew from reading this didn’t fit the symptoms of the severe swelling and extreme pain and voiced this to deaf ears. She gave me some antibacterial eye drops and said there wasn’t any pain! I tried the drops and the next morning I could barely open my eye, my vision was going blurry, and there was tons of pain. I told my friend that I had to see an eye doctor. They took me on an emergency basis that morning and as soon as he saw me he said that’s not pink eye. He tested me with a bunch of stuff and called in one of his colleges to do all the tests and give an opinion. The eye pressure was so high they couldn’t dialate the pupils. After 2 hours of testing with tons of other patients waiting and coming around complaining of the wait I knew something was very wrong. He sent me directly to the nearest cat scan where I got 2 ct’s and a bunch of bloodwork done. As I was walking out the door they called my cell and asked if I could get more ct’s done with contrast. The eye doc called a few minutes after the ct’s were done and said I had orbital pseudotumor, swelling of the tissue of the eye orbital.
I received a script for prednisone and eye drops to lower the eye pressure. My vision started to deteriorate rapidly from then tue to now fri. I have seen him again and today saw another doc for tons of pics of the retina and some sort of laser scan of the retina. I am now legally blind in my right eye with 20/300 vision and what little I can see is yellow from fluid leaking in. My retina is detached in a few places that I saw on the laser scan. He told me he could only find 1-2 cases of detached retina caused by this documented but with the correct treatment I could fully recover with time. I have to see 2 docs on mon and one on tue. The only good news is the pain, swelling, and eye pressure are good now though my right eye is smaller then the other and I look kinda crazy with a big left and small bloodshot right eye. It’s been hard to adjust to seeing with one eye, I almost fell on my face stepping of a curb, keep bumping into things, keep missing when I grab for something, there is no way I could drive responsively, and reading is very hard.
Sorry for the long winded post.
If anyone is waiting on a plant from me I am shipping Monday.
