Even if you want to keep your current health care provider's policy, aren't you still stuck paying taxes into the stupid thing?

That is the major gripe I have with it. If I want to opt out, I should be able to on all levels. Otherwise, I'm just paying for health care twice is the way I see it.

I see no change today, pretty much the new boss same as the old boss.
Ditto. Or maybe even worse in some aspects...

The bottom line is that the government wants to control everything. It boils my blood that they think they know better than I how I should live my life.

I know it's an old video, but it's priceless. She's thinking, Woops! Why did I just say that!? LOL

Everyone is dancing around the real problem with this, they are trying to get a bill signed that would not have been voted on by either the house or the senate. This is a very dangerous road, you may not have a problem with this today because it will get you the bill you want, but just wait a few years. The other party will have this power...We have our system of government for a reason. We are a republic and that means something to some of us.

Either way you will not get this healthcare for many years in whatever form if they go this route, there will be so many lawsuits if it passes this way...Its just not healthy for the country as a whole, pick some nice pieces and pass the ones you can pass.

Would you really want Bush having this much power back when they had all 3 branches?

I don't think any branch of government should have that much power, no matter which side they're on. That's the reason the USA was founded, to get away from oppressive, all powerful rulers and governments. Once bills start passing that way, it will be a total free for all on the Hill and rules will be changed or thrown out all together to suit whomever screams the loudest. Then we'd all might as well be right back in late 17th through 18th century England being ruled by the crown.

I read a very sad and pathetic outright political lie today, in a place you would never expect it..
if you have a Sunday paper with Doonsbury in the comics, check out todays strip..

    (never mind..I found it online:
    http://www.gocomics.com/doonesbury/

So Garry Trudeau is saying the Tea Party movement started because the government wants to CUT taxes??
what planet does that guy live on?
the exact OPPOSITE is the truth..its about gigantic tax increases, to pay for all these new programs we cant afford..so basically Doonsbury is lying outright to its readers today..hoping people will believe his revisionist history..
(talk about desperate..liberals now have to resort to REALLY OBVIOUS lies..rather than the usual subtle lies..)

Not to mention the outright looting of the Treasury by the Federal Reserve Bank. We need to take back control of our money as well. Why did we give control of our most precious resource to a privately held company? (The Federal Reserve Bank). One that the American people do not even have the power to audit.

This is a good day. Despite desperate GOP obstruction, we are inching, slowly, towards a sane health care system. Here are some facts to consider:

    1) We have the most expensive, but not the best, health care system in the world. We pay almost double what most first-world, modern nations do.

    2) We have more people without health care insurance because of the cost than any other first-world nation. Some 40million plus have no health care insurance.

    3) We already pay for the "deadbeats" through our private plans. They go to emergency rooms for the most expensive treatment only after they are very sick, since they cannot see regular doctors. We don't let people die in the streets, so this expensive care cost is passed onto our private plans.

    4) The leading cause of personal bankruptcy in this country is medical bills. Even for the insured - since we don't have good regulation on the private insurance industry, they are constantly denying claims, under-paying, dropping customers, and leaving even the insured vulnerable to financial ruin. We are the only country that has this ridiculous system where you can be ruined by getting sick. The health care bill addresses much of this.

    5) While this bill is of marginal popularity, it has to be understood that many of the people who oppose it think it doesn't go far enough. Many people support a single-payer, universal system. If that were the bill, the GOP would be even more crazy than they are now with their hysterical cries of "socialism!". But it's what people actually do want.

    6) You can thank our terrible campaign finance system which puts our representatives in the pockets of big corporations. Though the propaganda is clever, I don't think anyone genuinely believes our insurance system is actually good. This is a bipartisan problem - politicians require the backing of big business to get elected on both sides of the aisle.

    7) For decades we've been held hostage to the abusive private insurers, with an effective mandate to use their services, protected by politicians from both parties. That is finally ending, though not quite with the vigor that some of us would prefer. But it's a start.

Weren't the contents of our treasury handed over to the private bank during the depression as some kind of an emergency act? That's another thing that needs to change.

So Garry Trudeau is saying the Tea Party movement started because the government wants to CUT taxes??
Well, it is a comic strip. Maybe that's a sad attempt at humor. It's so funny that I'll reserve my exuberant laughter for later.

No argument there. I for one am tired of paying for everyone who unlike myself is not young and healthy. I just don't want to trade that in for being held hostage by a government that can pass any law it sees fit by bypassing whatever necessary legal processes it sees fit.

The comic strip was pointing out the humor in an allegedly "anti-tax" group springing up despite the fact that Obama cut taxes for 95% of the people. The Tea Party-ers seem to have missed that fact, but then again their grasp of reality is pretty tenuous. Hence the cartoon.
