Some NECPS 2010 show pix.

  • #21
Yes, it was beautiful before and it had some nice Sarrs, was covered with Cape Sundews & Venus Flytraps. It had a giant tree stump from a Dawn Redwood with some really nice scrambling nepenthes, some with foot long pitchers. I will try to find a picture. It was one of the largest draws at the Botanical Center.

Many of us have donated plants for it. Quogue donated some stunners at this year's show. I had donated a huge N. bical in a 3 gallon pot years ago, but I don't know what happened to it. Our president John Phillip had it at his house for a while because at the time we couldn't count on the help at the park to water things correctlly.

We had anticipated having the public helps us re plant the bog at the show, but it wasn't ready. The soil had not absorbed enough of the water in time.

Anyone else have pictures of the bog?

Hey Jimmy,

Yeah - we planted it, what, two years ago? It looked fantastic for a while - then apparently there were some drainage problems or something, and the plant health went downhill. The NECPS is going to re-plant the bog (I doubt I'll be able to make that meeting :( It was really fun the first time) now that the drainage issues have been fixed and the soil "refreshed."

Nice pics Jeff! I'm sure I could work out a trade with the Ceph-Man himself, Jeffalotus!
Can't say how much fun these shows are... they freakin' Rule!!
Should have abuncha pics up when I have the chance, things are kinda hectic at the moment.
Emily's bug collection should be a hit around here!

Thez, that's, I beleive (someone correct me if I'm wrong) H. ionasii. A very beautiful plant!

OMG no wonder I love it - ionassi is one of my top three or four favorites, and the only one of the top three or four that I don't have yet. I hope to trade for one in the near-ish future.

Very amazing plants and very nice pictures of them too! I'm kinda sad I didn't go, but I was definitely out and sleeping 20 hours a day with a horrible cold that weekend so it wouldn't have been good for *anyone* for me to have been there. I'm planning on going to some bigger meetings and hopefully NECPS next year though! I miss the East Coast so much.

Thez, you should look up my great-uncle, out in Valleystream (think that's the name - about 1/2 hour outside San Diego). He's a big figure in the orchid world out there, and has a greenhouse full of great ones.

Cool! You gotta gimme more info than just he's a half hour from here though :p. I love taking field trips to see other people's plants!

Wow! Thanks for the pics folks! Looks like it was fantastic!
if anyone is interested in the drive next year im starting the search for fellow non flying folks that would like to share the trip.
Hey Jimmy,
Keep me in mind, I may need to finally make the trek (although I can't help with the 1st half of your drive).
