Looking really nice.

I checked the greenhouse this past weekend while we were hauling lumber out of the 3 acre bog (lots of ticks and wet shoes)

Nepenthes reinwardtiana has a nice vine heading to the top of the greenhouse, Nepenthes eymae has two growth points with upper pitchers, Nepenthes burbidgeae is putting out pitchers finally, really large growth on the truncata and khasiana. Everything looks great.

Oh, Graham that fusca for pic two is actually maxima 'superba.'

  • #89
It looks awesome, doesn't it?! The N. burbidgeae pitcher is going to look amazing, we're all excited for it. The eymae doesn't have actually uppers yet, but it's close.

That's a maxima?! That's a really, really nice maxima!

Nice snake! Do you know what species? We get northerns around here occasionally, but they aren't as orange.

  • #95
It's a northern water snake. We have the regular brown ones as well as the colorful ones.

  • #96
Water snake bites are like "Meh", not that bad IMO, although the anticoagulant in the saliva makes for a bloody old time! Just go for it and grab the big sucker! And invest in a snake hook for the station, that would make people feel safer, being able to remove him without touching.

  • #97
Gorgeous stuff! Too many cool things to choose. I love the Luna Moth though, I've never seen one before in person.

  • #98
That species is more widespread than I thought then! Gorgeous plants, and I would love to see a luna moth in person one day!

  • #99
The water snakes around here tend to bite repeatedly, leaving lots of open wounds. They're no tree pythons, but they're still something to look out for. They usually keep to themselves unless provoked.
Luna moths are rare to find in broad daylight. Always a treat to find one. And they're fuzzy!

Wonderful post. I wish to visit a place like this some day, but hope not to run into any snakes!
I almost stepped on one once while walking though a field, i felt my hair going up as I saw it bellow my foot.
