This last week in a city not too far from here, 6 cops were shot, and one killed, while conducting a surprise raid on a home suspected of having marijuana grow room. There has been a ton of outrage, of course. Now, the police are going on the local news telling people to watch neighbors for signs of illegal grow operations. The signs? Look for florescent tubes, either in the trash, or being brought in from the car. Look for an 'unusual amount or frequency' of bulbs, whatever that means. Also, look for lights coming from rooms that seems to be regular in timing, and that seem out of place, ie bright florescent light from what should be bedroom, etc. Look for signs of unusual indoor gardening, buying lots of pots and dirt, but not using it in the yards, pvc pipe and ventilation tubing, etc, and not hesitate to tip off police or dea. It's your duty as a citizen to lookout for your neighborhood! Blah blah blah.
I grow my plants inside a 'growlab' tent that lets me shut out most of the light. The primary reason I went with this setup was to block the light as it is annoyingly bright. I don't have basement, so my plants are in a spare room. Especially this time of year, the lights are on during time of darkness outside, light will definitely glow through the blinds if I don't black the growlab out.
So anyway, yeah I becoming a bit worried that sometime in the middle of the night, I'm going to wake up to a bunch of trigger happy govt agents storming my house. Plus, they have a documented reputation of shooting first, asking questions later, when it comes to dogs that are present. So I can see them shooting my very barky shih tzu. On top of this, I am armed. Someone comes busting in, yes my first instinct will be to defend myself, especially if it's the middle of the night and I'm woken by surprise.
The local populace has a reputation of being nosy and gossipy, especially among a certain predominant religious group, of which I'm surrounded as I live in an extremely conservative neighborhood. And now with the news blaring out the local police requests to be nosy for this specific stuff in light of the recent shootings..yeah I'm worried. Honest, I thinking about ditching this hobby as I'm becoming so concerned about this. I've read of cases where people have been prosecuted for just having grow equipment that could be used for growing illegal crops, even if no such plants were found.
I cannot be the only one who has had this topic cross their mind. What say you?
