Geez, that 'Leah Wilkerson' is awesome, and I was excited today when I measured one of my S. Dana's Delight pitchers at a now piddly 22" compared to the Leah W., haha.

  • #142
Awesome, dude. Looks like everything is coming along very nicely. ..Still waiting for a few more of mine to open before I start taking pics.

  • #143
I hope you bagged that hamiguitanensis - when I got mine oh man, it totally wanted to melt like a ping. The plant somehow really wanted to die.. I think it's one I got resent because the original send from him was one of the doomed ones from maybe two years ago that got delayed at customs or somesuch (in which case the original suffered a horrible, brutal death).

  • #144
Actually, the hamiguitanensis was one of only 3 acceptable plants on the whole order.

That robcantleyi !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Stunning

  • #148
Best looking robcantleyi I've seen yet. Kind of has a truncata x ovata -ish color to it.

  • #149
Thanks guys. It took forever to open but, it was well worth it. That color was really surprising given what it's previous pitchers looked like, they were dark purple/black mixed with green. Brie got some much better pics of it than I did, I'm sure she'll post some later.

Everything looks great, man. Really disappointed that I missed checking it out firsthand - should have bought that plane ticket. Considering I know how large those square pots are, that robcantleyi pitcher is ridiculously large. Also, if it's anything like the pitcher I had that started out with that same red hue, the whole thing will turn a solid dark brown.

The robcantleyi is beautiful. Looks a lot like it's mom. Was this plant from the first release?

Yes it was. It almost died while i was on vacation last year and has taken this long just to pitcher again. Looks like it's back on track now.

I hope my robcantleyi gets to be that nice. It is SLOWLY growing a pitcher.

That mutant flower reminds me of Darlingtonia. And that is a gorgeous robcantleyi! Now I just have to convince mine to gain some size.....

I thought the same thing. Very Darlingtonia like.

That robcantleyi is incredible, but that Drosophyllum is also a beast! Looks fantastic! I'm just sowing my seeds, any tips?

I nip off the small end of the seed with fingernail clippers then sow them in small peat pots full of vermiculite under bright lights. I keep them trayed and covered until they are an inch or two tall. I then remove the lid but, still keep them moist. Once the seedlings are 3"-5" tall, I plant them in their permanent pots in a mix of 1:1:1: sand, vermiculite and, either perlite or aps. I water them at least once a week for the first few months until the roots establish themselves. After the plant is acclimated to it's pot, it only needs water once or twice a month. I also add a layer of coarse gravel to the top of the permanent pot, it helps to disperse water and keeps the sandy mix from eroding.

Thanks Graham. That one on display at the show, while enormous was not very attractively colored. Mine is darkening by the day, I'll post more pics once it fully colors up. Brie and Jeremiah were trying to convince me to bring it, maybe I should have listened to them...

No problem. You don't live too far away, so it wouldn't have traumatized it too much by moving it. It might have won an award if you brought it. That monster specimen looked kind of dirty, like a potato. Oh well, there's always next time. I kind of wish I brought something, too.
