I'll update this thread when I have more pics.

The N. eymae looks like the dark form maxima we have at Meadowview, which is still a really nice plant!

I got it from a supplier in the Northeast. They've sent me the wrong plants before so i don't know for sure if that is what it is. Thats the tag that was in it though.

Fantastic! Your grow rack looks to be the same brand/make as mine. What size/type lighting do you use (and how many)? And when you water, do you hand water them 1 by 1?
Thanks again for the wonderful pictures!

I have a 2-tube, 2ft T5 HO light on the top shelf and some cheapo growlight T10 (not HO) that was given to me just to give a little extra light to the lower shelves. I am getting a 4 tube, 4 ft T5 HO to hang vertically down the back in a week or two though and I have a couple mylar blankets i'm going to cover the sides with. The bottom shelf is replaced with a wooden frame I made and covered with pond liner which I fill with hot water almost everyday to raise the humidity. I just put a thermometer in and on average I think my temps are ranging between 82-78 during the day and 67-72 at night. I don't know what the humidity level is but the Nepenthes seem to like it :)

So are the nepenthes on the second shelf only getting the diffused lighting from above? Also, I myself used some foam board as a backing for mylar security blanket. It makes a solid material that yo ucan easily hang on the sides, I can't recommend it highly enough!

It's that huge maxima if that's where it came from. Personally, I think it's more impressive than N. eymae.

yea the nepenthes are only getting diffused light from above. They seem to be doing fine with that.

What's the story on that N. burbidgeae? Did you just get it or have you had it for a while? (It kinda looks like it's been recently repotted). I got one last summer and it's growing painfully slowly, and I'd love to hear the story of yours, especially if you've been growing it for a while. It looks pretty happy to me!

Thanks,
CJ

P.S. This is kinda a common discussion, but, I sorta wanna say your N. alata is actually N. x 'Ventrata.' I do grow both, and yours definitely looks more like the latter.

I've had it since last spring. It did just get repotted because as I was carrying it home from the NC State conservatory I tripped and the pot broke *smacks head* It does grow painfully slowly. It only had 3 leaves when I got it and it flushed in early summer and put out 3 new leaves and it inflated two pitcher but one aborted and the other is the one that you see in the pictures.

I agree with Unstuck on the N. alata. It definitely looks like N. x ventrata, no ala on the front and the peristome does look a little wide.

  • #12
well i got it at a local garden center and i found out where they got it from, Deroose in Florida. I think they are just a wholesale grower, but when i searched their list of plants they said they grow N. 'Miranda' which it definitely is not and N. 'Alata' so I just assumed they meant it was some sort of alata hybrid. You guys are probably right.

  • #13
Yup the "Deroose alata" is a ventrata. I bought mine as a N. alata, too. We may be able to take cuttings of that monster N. alata at Meadowview. It's making another basal from what I can recall.

  • #14
After what happened with the ruffle-leaved maxima i don't think phil will ever take cuttings again lol. but good to know, then i don't actually have an alata :(

awesome tank!!! :0o: your plants look wonderful

just how large is that tank? and is it glass or acrylic?

Nice setup you got there!! :)

It is glass and it is about 56" long by 26" wide and about 24" tall the legs add a little more height. Thanks for the compliment, but I really can't take credit for the plants, all the pitchers were given to me by Nepguy, the case was also his. I just spruced everything up and made it all look pretty. Although, all the small square, black pots are plants that are in the random pictures are plants that I just bought from CZ plants.
