    Thought I posted these. . . I guess not!

This is really similar to a picture I posted a while back in this thread. Just different lighting and lens!

    Again taken with the helios.

I had the Vivitar 28mm Close Focus Wide Angle out yesterday.

I generally only use it for close focus/macro shots. I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

Where do we go when we just don't know,
And how do we relight the flame when it's cold?
Why do we dream when our thoughts mean nothing,
And when will we learn to control?

    New addition to the collection..

Arrived yesterday, "Super Multicoated Takumar" 50mm f/1.4
This is a 1971 mfg. lens... known for excellent performance and being slightly radioactive (contains Thorium in the glass).
The glue is also slightly reactive and causes the lens to yellow if not exposed to UV light occasionally.
    (easily reversable)
Ive put it under a UV light for a few days, it has a hint of the yellowing

But first I couldn't resist walking out on the front porch and snapping a quick pic... no comp, just making sure it worked..

Lots of potential, the in-focus area seems to really pop

Whats something to read or watch to learn to take great pics? I have Photography For Dummies but they use really big words.

LOL, ummm if i had that answer my pics wouldnt be so bad....

To be honest I do the shotgun approach... I take a dozen pics and usually out of that I get one or two I think look nice.
My best advice, get a camera that has manual mode and just start taking pics...

the really good people (amp takes beautiful studio type shots) know how to use lighting.... im still a babbling baby in that area
But for that read a blog called the strobist.... amazing, but ya gotta get some basic equipment to do their assignments

Im learning though, here is crop from one I recently took with my vintage Jupiter 9

If you look carefully in her eyes, you can see I used two lighting sources... in what is callend the rembrant config.
The key light is a soft box to the right of the camera at about a 45 degree angle to the model and an umbrealla as a fill light just to left of the camera.
The fill light was on about 1/8th power and the key light was on about 1/2 power.
Exposure was set using a 18% gray target
    (a very textbook setup/shot )

Ha! I think your pics look great. Your heli pics are some of my fav online. Everyone in this thread seems to know what theyre doing way more than I do. Guess i'll have to play around with manual mode some more. Thanks!
