    Make Shift Tissue Culture?

So for a while now I've had a strong desire to get started in tissue culture, both for the plant propagation and because the entire process seems awesome. The limiting factor, as a college student, has been money and I've pretty much resigned myself to waiting until I finish up in the fall. However, being on an engineering campus, I've been thinking it might be possible to gather a lot of the supplies from various departments.

So a quick question, what would people recommend be the necessary supplies i might need to all collect? to be clear, I will not be stealing these, but will certainly ask various professors if they might have extra supplies lying around.

    Thanks for the help,
    Kyle

I'm sure you have seen this link
    http://www.flytrapcare.com/tissue-culture-basics.html

there is also bunch of helpful videos that explain the process in details on youtube.

if you want to make your own media.. well it is a multi-component mixture so perhaps it would be easier to just buy it premixed.
I work in the lab and was thinking about mixing it myself but decided against it.

But you might want to wait and see what people who actually DID TC will say about it.

I actually have full access to a top notch hood, and from reading the link (Thanks Gill!) it seems the things I don't have have access too will be:
    Baby food jars (easy enough)
Media (any recommendations where/what compound to buy? It will be for Nepenthes seed at first)
    Phyto Caps (where to buy?)
Pressure cooker. Is this the only way to sanitize? Does anyone else have a different method?
Thanks again for all the input!

they sell kits for beginners tell them that it is for CP's. As far as adjusting the media for neps, you'll have to look around here. I'm pulling this info from my old saved searches on here and google:

Perhaps some of this info will be helpfull (it is a copy of my google docs TC related notes so far)

I agree with an earlier post and would also suggest Matt's site, www.flytrapcare.com, where he offers an ongoing forum on tissue culture -- under GROWING ENVIRONMENTS, TISSUE CULTURE AND OTHER PROPAGATION, TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES -- and a clear overview of what is necessary for success . . .
