Wandered over to the zoo... again. [pics heavy]

Well, I guess it's always the same animals and all, but meh. Here's pics--

I started out early enough in the morning that the snails were still out

I wish this hadn't turned out off-focus but there are some truly fantastic (phantastic? ) succulents in people's yards here in fun diego

    and nice flowers too

    and my favourite coloured one

Is this an iris? it's my favourite kind!

and apparently I'm close to a really swanky rich neighborhood where people have nice lions guarding their abodes

So going along this walk, I realize I hit the dead end at which there's the rickety wooden footbridge. Face and conquer your fears, eh?

Oh god was it awful but I was rewarded with some wicked graffiti at the end:

and some more on the ground

So I finally get into the park, and more awesome succulents of course:

And of course I head to the conservatory. It wasn't opened yet because I think they start at 10am, but the pond out front is always nice:

this one definitely doesn't look like koi..

...so I set off again on my walk (continued in next post )

couple more flowers on the way to the zoo because, well, I wouldn't be on this forum if I didn't like nice flowers

so I guess I got there early because I had to wait behind some rope til 9am with the crowd of early peeps but I caught a pic of this guy while waiting

and his buddy after getting let in

if anyone ever asks you, flamingo pond? SMELLS to high heaven

this is behind them pink birds

I don't normally drop by the monkey cages because I guess I don't really like watching monkeys but this time I stopped by

here-ish is where the Sarra/vft bog is amidst the monkeys

this guy seemed as bored with me as I was with him

here's the minibog with some bunbuns

and a sad looking little nep with them

    these guys randomly

ok, enough monkeys... on to more stuff (to be continued in next post)

There's an exhibit that has turtles and some sort of uh... croco-alli-ghari-caiman animal? I'm sure the purists will let me know

    turtle-swimming slo-mo

I'm sure one of you 1337 h4x0rs can figure out how to make that into a gif. Though not an amusing one anyway, a fishing cat I think:

this guy did not like me showing up there

    more flowers!

    And hippos!

ok, enough water things... moving on (continued in next post)

Some blue bird (I would make a horrible ornithologist )

an otter doing otter things (stirring up mud?)

monkeys hang out in there with the otter. they do not care

this guy sorta cared though.. was probably thinking 'what are you doing over there?'

    some strange 4-horned bacon-beast

displeased with me looking at him apparently

    a nice statue

    ducky!!

    and some strange fruit

    another birdface

and a cute flower that was across from that pond

ok, so up the hill to where the zebra, arctic stuff, and elephants hang out. The zebras were being antisocial, as were the elephants so you just get gazelle-type-things and the polar stuff

n'awww a cute widdle arctic fox

even the caribou were hiding but... more duckies! and bathtime!

this one's bill was decidedly more blue than turned out in this pic

so, enough duckies for the time being... (continued in next post)

this is the bridge that leads from Laurel up into the park (I think it's called the Prado but I'm not entirely sure). Apparently you can see it from the zoo without being on the gondolas.

    startled venison

that last one calmed down though... either that or was preparing to head-butt me

    some hoppity things

and then onto where the relephant things start. Fake tar pit:

    some skulls

    and statues

    and apparently morning nap-tiemz

I think this one's called a secretary bird. it's tall

And I swear there's a hummingbird in these

this is in with that teeny tiny little deer that I couldn't see because of the glaring sun

and just like the tepuis, snacks provided!

ok, over to BEARS! (to be continued in next post)

    and lions too I guess

    ok back to bears

    monkeyface

there's a good 3-4 aviaries at SD Zoo

this one has some nice ponds in it too

then another aviary... I forget what this one is called but it used to be my favourite because it used to have this gigantic blue pigeon from somewhere tropical. Didn't see it/them this time

    more purty flowers

and then off to the hummingbird aviary.. (to be continued in next post)

    Secretarybird! Lovely!
Those archerfish are awesome, did they spit at you? :P
I think the bird you meant was a Victoria Crowned Pigeon, still lots of pretty toucans/aracaris/toucanetts.
