Trip down to New Jersey pine barrens

Heli

villosaholic
As some of you know, I am down staying with my grandfather who lives by the pine barrens, he also works at a nursery that grows sarrs. We took a visit to his friend's (Bill Smith) bog first and then went to the pine barrens after.

This was really cool, did a little bit of island hopping and found this little seedling hidden behind a bush, the whole plant is completely red... not one bit of green whatsoever. After searching around for a while I didnt find any other plant like this..... really cool.

I went into sarr overload and almost clicked off, but then I saw the sphagnum and OMG!

Didn't know dews could grow submerged...

EDIT: OMG died on the second post. Sooooo much sphagnum!!! Purely sphagnum and purps!

Wow amazing pics!!! I bet theres a lot of cross breeding going on in his bog lol. That should should be fun identifying those seedlings when they get big. That red purp looks really promising!

@lance, yea there are like thousands of seedlings just scattered around. I actually found three in the Leah's pot

this is unreal thanks for all the work on the pics , and sharing , loved every sarr.

I am like sooo jealous! Love that bog and all the pics, thank you for sharing. :-D

OMG Becky.....Look at that purp, it is SO BIG! :p

also...I can't believe there is a sarr nursery on the east coast, I've never even heard of one!

I absolutly love that big purp near the end of the pics  and Leah looks nice too

Thanks for the kind words. @lance, some of them yes.

The all red purp seedling will probably lose a lot of the red as it ages. That tends to happen with them. It may keep the trait, for all I know.

There are plenty of Sarracenia nurseries on the East Coast. That's where they are from, after all.
