Hey guys so I decided that posting all my pictures in one boringly named thread didn't give the variety of my collection justice so I'm starting this thread just for my Nepenthes, Heliamphora, Brocchinia, Catopsis and Cephalotus. As of now I don't have any Cephs and I've only got two Heliamphora but I've got plenty of Neps to share. Here We Go!

That's it for now! Thanks for checking out my plants :)

Love that N. mirabilis echinostoma. Nice plants!

Nice... one of everything, eh? :p I'm jealous of your ampullaria-keeping abilities.

I have the suggestion that N.rafflesiana v. elongata got renamed to baramensis though...

thanks Queen Zuzunums, Wireman and I were discussing that and I came to the conclusion that I disagree with it being N. baramensis based on the name change is based solely on the prey it eats differing from other forms of N. rafflesiana I don't think prey type should differentiate species from each other, maybe varieties or forms, but not species. Just mho. but to apease everyone I'll put slash N. baramensis :)

King, and interesting. I just read through http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/nhn/blumea/2011/00000056/00000003/art00007 and I was wondering how you came to the conclusion of your discussion with Wireman? On the one hand, I thought it was a little ridiculous the mass-renaming of everything and its closest cousin last Winter because some of them appeared to be splitting hairs, but some of them were justified. Lets do dis :p

Sorry, King Zuzunums. Anyway, honestly all our discussion entailed was him explaining that the basis of the name change was the difference in prey capture. I didn't really do my homework on it to be honest. But when I've got some time I'll have to read through that article.

I really like your plants. I would like to see them when they grow :)

Great lowlanders, mcnair! Lots of things we never see on here. Really like the baramensis.

Hey mcncnair, Great plants! I was wondering about your truncata x veitchii h/l and how long did it take to put stripes on? Or did it always have stripes?

  • #11
well, i'm growing it in lowland conditions so I don't think it's a highlander, but maybe it has just adapted??? The plant was given to me by another TF member (Nepguy) as a rooted cutting and out of the two pitchers it has produced both have been striped, at least somewhat on the first and more heavily on the second. I would say the stripes typically appear about a day or two after the pitcher fully opens.

  • #12
N. baramensis also has a different upper pitcher morphology, papery texture instead of leathery, doesn't secret as much nectar, etc. There's enough of a difference to classify it as a subspecies, maybe.

wow you have many neps im jealous , the . rafflesiana var. elongata/N. baramensis, is my fav here but you have too many to pick one cant wait to see them all get big and mean!!:-O
nice plants mason

Love all the amp clones!

'Very nice collection. I agree with Sundrew. It's fun to see all of the ampullaria varieties.

Mcmcnair, Wow those neps look fantastic! I can tell you plan to fill yourself with more neps eventually :). Great growing and nice ampullaruia crosses, also that rafflesiana is looking great.

I'll see you tomorrow! ;)

My goal with my nep collection is to own every nep cultivar/variety in cultivation. I think the next few I am gonna get are Cantley's Red, Borneo Sunset, Harlequin, and the Giant clone. Thanks everyone considering I just got most of these recently or under 6 months I think I'm gonna have a pretty neat collection in a year or two once everything puts on some size. What I find most interesting is that I'm growing plants like N. ramispina, N. alba, and N. glabrata next to ultra lowlanders like bellii and they're all pitchering and producing leaves like crazy??? go figure. Guess I've got a green thumb :)

  • #18
mcmcnair, i see two possibilities for your success...
1) all your plants are young and havent developed their specific range requirements just yet
OR
2) you gots the magic window :boogie:

  • #19
most are pretty young, but no windows for me just artificial lights :) but lets hope for the latter instead of they havn't developed their range requirements yet
