Those Utrics are crazy! Lucky you, I still can't seem to make U. pubescens happy. Let's hope the latest move to the terra is helping.

Sorry that last batch of pics was a bit dark, didn't realize until after the fact. To compensate, here are some of the plants in better lighting, and some new ones!

Nice pictures!

I'll admit, I do like them on the lighter side. The dark ones with all dark backgrounds get too oppressive at times.

Sweet update Gabriel!

Great looking plants! Are you fertilizing you regias? Supposedly that's the only sure fire way many people have of getting them past seedling stage. Just curious...

  • #95
Thanks all!

@Lil, yeah. That last batch was miscalculated on my part. Should have shot with a tripod and gone for a longer exposure. :p if black backgrounds are done correctly they look nice. But my lighting was terribly executed.

@Richjam, I feed them occasionally. I haven't fed the seedlings yet, but they are getting to the size where it will become necessary. I've grown regia from seed before, and feeding is certainly a big help. Most people say it is necessary to get them past a certain size.

I agree. When done well, I do like the black backgrounds. I have a couple prints at home that a friend made for me of my species Impatiens (I forgot what it's called) and a species orchid (candy corn). He used a black velvet background and stacked about a dozen shots each. They look good. He was going to do a U. sandersonii flower next, but then he got fired, and I couldn't get his home e-mail. Drat! :(
