Loving that roridula! I have no luck with them.

I nearly killed it last year, though I was luckily able to save it and get it growing again over the winter. It rains far too much during the winter here in Oregon for these plants to survive outdoors. It's not the soil moisture that's the problem - it's fungal infections of the leaves. Hopefully I'll be able to keep it healthy indoors over the winter and perhaps get some flowers next year. I've seen smaller plants flower.

I thought they liked dark places?

This fly made some very poor decisions

Basal growth! I can't wait for some lower pitchers.

Feasting on fruit flies.

First tuberous sundew seedling of the season, hopefully followed by many more.

Picture dump! Includes many UV shots I did last night.

There's so many of them...

Coloring up nicely under LEDs.

Sarracenia purpurea ssp. venosa, Tattnall Co, GA (UV illuminated) by Nimbulan, on Flickr
Very weak fluorescence here. I may need to try this picture again with a visible light filter.

Nepenthes x hookeriana (UV illuminated) by Nimbulan, on Flickr
Interestingly, the upper part of the pitcher is slightly darker under UV when it's the same color under normal lighting.

It seems like just about everything that grows in CP pots glows!

Nepenthes heterodoxa (UV illuminated) by Nimbulan, on Flickr
Heliamphora pitcher hairs glow brightly when the pitcher first opens, but fade quickly for some reason.

Drosophyllum lusitanicum seeds (UV illuminated) by Nimbulan, on Flickr
Apparently Drosophyllum seeds glow. I guess I know how to find them in the dark now.

Nepenthes attenboroughii (UV illuminated) by Nimbulan, on Flickr
Unlike other species I grow, the leaves seem to be reacting to the UV rather than just the pitchers.

'Gotta say, I really like the Ceph with UV shot. Nicely done!

Congrats on the D. cistiflora seedlings. Did you do any sort of pretreatment on them?

 • #112
I was advised to do no treatment, so I did. It seems timing is the most important factor since it is a winter grower and the seedlings need enough time to grow and prepare for dormancy the following summer.

An update on the D. capillaris vs D. natalensis mystery for RSS hcarlton SerMuncherIV:

I was never able to catch a flower open to take a picture, but it has produced some seeds and they match SerMuncherIV's picture of D. natalensis seeds in this post: http://www.terraforums.com/forums/general-discussions/140903-nimbulans-picture-post1200421.html#post1200421

I don't have a picture at the moment, I need to figure out how to get proper lighting to take a super close-up picture of seeds.

'Nice close-ups! I'm hoping for much more snow this winter, but we will see.

Time for a picture dump! First an ice storm on the tail end of the first winter storm, then more snow!

The ice slightly melted then refroze overnight, resulting in the appearance of frozen bubbles. It made for some awesome pictures:

OMG, loving the ice encasement pics, especially the S. Spade and ice-sickle nose Tarnok! We did not get the freezing rain out here like you guys got in Portland.

Awesome wintry shots!

Natural ice sculptures! Those are some fun shots - 'way to make lemonade. I don't envy you the ice but it certainly creates some amazing beauty.
