Southeast cp society

I have a pic of a S.flava with lighting in the background. I can't remember where I got it but if we can find who took it, it would be perfect for the homepage. Jay's pic of the Flava with the fly is a great pic too. He sent it to me a couple of years ago.

Anyone interested, I need photos for our site's gallery.  I am including copyright information with each, but if you want it stamped on your photo, you need to do that before I get the photo because it is labor intensive for me to do it all.

You can link to a page of your photos or email them to me.

It would be nice if all of the images were around 800x600.  The program I am using automatically makes thumbnails, so just send images at 800x600 or less, with copyright stamp if wanted.

Thanks,
Patrick

The first version of our Web site is complete enough to be put online as soon as a place is available.

The design is still not final, so if you have any recommendations once it is online, please make them.

We need the following:

- a mission statement
- photographs for the site (up to 800x 600 resolution)
- cultivation summaries (to peak the interest of beginners)
- good links for a links page

Also, whoever is in charge of the journal/newsletter should begin to organize that.

I need email addresses (if you want them posted) for officers and people responsible for newsletter, etc.

Thanks, this is coming along great.

- Patrick

Before everyone reads this and moans... I know its crappy. I figured I'd put something on so people would start thinking and come up with a decent one....so get busy.

Our mission is to:
1. Provide a forum for the exchange of scientific and general information on carnivorous plants.
2. Promote the conservation of both plants and habitat in the Southeast.
3. Provide a means for the legal exchange of plants and plant material between members.
4. Promote a sense of camaraderie between members by providing opportunities for meetings and other activities throughout the entire Southeast.

It would be nice if all the regional CP societies could put up a page with an image-mapped ... er... map.  One of the USA, with each zone covered by a regional society marked a different color and linked to the website of that society.  (And perhaps marked with the location that they usually meet)

I'm really unfamiliar with image maps.  Is this something easy to do?

I think that SECPSonline.org is a little redundant
online=online
I think we should go with something like southeastCPS.org, or something like that. That looks to be the best suggestion so far.

As for cultivation, I would just put a basic description of the genus, and some info on temp, water, light, humidity, etc. Anyone could do it, and the Savage Garden would help, containing basic cultivation requirement for every genus and such. I could put together a rough cultivation guide, but I'm not a very good writer. Any other takers?
For a good links page, hmmmm......

I'm rather tired of being confused as of who is in charge of, responsible for, or doing what. Why don't we assign/elect some people to be in charge of the newsletter, website (I think that's already ptfreelander, but let's make it official), forum design, general organization, etc. Any volunteers? This won't be official, but it's sort of confusing for me........

Thanks,
Craig

I thought that the only thing currently going on was that ptfreelander was looking to set up the website. He asked for imput with links, a mission statement and growing tips, so I assumed he was trying to fill up the site. I (maybe mistakenly) thought everything else had been put on hold until that was done.

yeah, sort of, but if have a website, we need a treasurer to deal with funds, etc. I will be the temp treasurer, as I am paying for the site.

  • #94
I'm getting SoutheastCPS.org. tonight. As in now.
The secps will be paying for this as soon as we get the payment system started.
Start now or start later?
If now, then we need an elected treasurer! I'm temp for now.....
But if we are going to be handling dues and site fees, we'll need and elected one. Any volunteers? Oh, me! Anyone else?
getting site tonight, respond if you don't like the name now!!!

www.southeastcps.org is ok with me

What do others think?

Yes - I am trying to fill up the site, buster1, because that seems like a logical first-step, so we can spread our name more easily. Beyond that, it's up to other people what's going on right now.

Oh - Dmuscipula, image maps are easy to do , yes.

Well, good luck!

Yeah, But I'm only temporary! We want someone to pay from society funds, handle finances, etc. Just because I'm paying for site right now doesn't mean I'm the candidate, but thanks for the vote!
I think we need the following positions for now, more can be added later when they are needed.
we need-

-president-
-a Treasurer-
-a Webmaster- ptfreelander (patrick triggs)
-someone to head and edit the (for now) online journal-
-someone to begin to attempt to coordinate our meetings! We should probably have them every one or two years.... Hmmmmm.... maybe this fall?
(start thinking)

any other positions?

Quote[/b] (D muscipula @ May 28 2004,2:15)]Hi Craig
With all the new CPS popping up, i think we'd do well to integrate our websites to a certain degree.  For example, i've been trying to make sure i get a photo of every new species someone brings to meeting, just to be sure to have a full catalog of photos.  There's no reason we can't share the species part of our photo galleries.

I also have ambitions to create a really 'complete' trade/growlist database program to allow members to keep records of all their plants and also allow others to find out about different forms and locales according to what people have entered in.  This would make it easier to plan trades, etc.  If i do create such a thing, i think it would be good to use as the service for all the CPS that have an interest in such a thing.

so you could check out some of their photos or info....

Thanks,
Craig
