Memorial Day, here is a quick description.

Memorial Day is a holiday in the United States observed in late May. Previously designated Decoration Day, it was inaugurated in 1868 by Gen. John A. Logan for the purpose of decorating the graves of Civil War veterans and has since become a day on which all war dead are commemorated.

As a matter of fact, I think it another sad sign of our times that not many people recognize what this day is for - thank you for the history, Andrew. For us oldsters - our fathers served in World War II. My grandfather survived "The Big War." Maybe all these wars will just fade into history like the ancient wars. We should not forget. I think it makes us better people to remember that others have gone before us & made sacrifices for their belief in a better way for their fellow humans.
I just last night watched 'Return of the King' again with my family & with the war for Middle Earth, it was very clear there, too.
Anyone else, any thoughts?
This was sort of prompted by a statement made by a friend yesterday how there was a parade here & about 5 people were out to watch it.
