5.9? Isn't that getting pretty strong? Yikes. Glad I live in NY where the only earthquakes can easily be missed because you think it's just a large truck passing by.

It said on the news it was felt in San Francisco, but not by me! I was just sitting here at the desk, too.

O wow! My sister lives in Sacramento.

I will have to give her a call tonight. Hope everyone is ok.

Is it just me or did i just feel another, very light, earthquake? might have been a large large truck or something... I think i felt some of those aftershocks earlyer too, because the pictures on the wall keep moving out of place... after the first one, i put the pictures back in place, posted here, and noticed them out of place again... I love earthquakes

Spec,

It is not surprising that your pictures are moving around. As of this moment, Parkfield has received 218 aftershocks since 10:15 this morning, and still counting.

I agree with Spec, I love earthquakes lol biggest one we've had up here in the past few years was 7.8 though. Alaska has a ton of earthquakes.. more than any other state. Maybe you should move up here Spec?

I arrived in Anchorage five days after the "64 earthquake...total devestation.
I assure both Bonnie and Spec that they would not have "loved" that one.

I meant I love the smaller ones, I'm well aware of the devastation they can cause and take no joy in that Lauderdale

Ok, we need more CPers up here anyway.. I'm tired of being the only one

In Bosnia, we keep getting small earthquakes, they shake side to side once.
We dfind them annoying, e.g if youre drawing, it makes you go wrong.

However, once there was a real shocker.
I woke up, moments later tere was a big earthquake.
It kep on shaking from side to side, it felt like it was never going to stop.
It was powerful enough to knock stuff out of cupboards and swing open doors. As well as knocking pans off the stove and toher things of surfaces.
The woman in the flat above us was cooking and boiling milk, the earthquake hit and the milk spillet all over the place.
Then we all run out of our flats.
Our neibours told us that all their cups and china got knocked out of cupboards and smashed.
We were lucky. Our cup[pboards were very strong and hard to opne, so none opened.
But everything else did tho.

I knew that wasnt just me!

Pondboy,

That prediction was pretty much proven false yesterday. FWIH, eathquake specialists had the hypothosis that the longer an area goes without earthquakes, the larger and more powerful they are when it DOES happen... Such was not the case with yesterdays and todays earthwuakes on california.

PondBoy, you live in The New Madrid Seismic zone, which lies within the central Mississippi Valley, extending from northeast Arkansas, through southeast Missouri, western Tennessee, western Kentucky to southern Illinois. Historically, this area has been the site of some of the largest earthquakes in North America. Between 1811 and 1812, 4 catastrophic earthquakes, with magnitude estimates greater than 7.0, occurred during a 3-month period. The probability for an earthquake of magnitude 6.0 or greater is significant in the near future, with a 90% chance by the year 2040.
