A friend who's with the USFS was searching for some GPS documentation and stumbled upon the website of the Degree Confluence Project. Basically, people use GPS to put themselves on the intersection of a degree of longitude and a degree of latitude. Then they take some photos and send them to the website.

My pessimistic side wants to know why some people can travel the globe with GPS while others don't have a safe supply of drinking water. My optimistic side had me checking to see if any nearby points haven't been visited yet.
