my prime concern is for the rare birds that breed there like Spectecled eider, white-headed geese, and the many shoebirds that breed there, some wich are of conservation consern. several of these birds have very restricted breeding reinges, promarily the rare eiders. luckally, their whole range isnt in the proposed drilling site, but its still does not make it ok
    that makes no logic

Did you not read my post?
What percent of 19 million acres is 1000 acres? Surely that is not going to much damage.

if my math is correct, it is 0.000053%

    lets see..
if the 19million acres was a football field,
then the 1000 acres would be 3 square feet.

or..if the 19million acres were a 4X8 foot sheet of plywood.
then the 1000 acres would be a square 1/4 inch.
(thats a square quarter of one inch.)

Your math is off. You need to multiply by 100 to get a percent
    1,00019,000,000=0.000053100=0.0053%

    'doh!
    your right steve,
    thanks..

so on my 4X8 foot sheet of wood, it would now be a square 5 inches on a side..5 X 5 inches.
    25 square inches.
    out of 4,608 square inches.

Its actually prodicted that if all the oil in Alaska was drained it would run the US for 6 months. Does 6 months matter that much? I think not. Leave the animals and plants be

It has also been predicted that if you drain all the oil in alaska it will run the US for 50 years..

the answer you get depends on the answer you want.
