Welcome gulfensis. Many places sell plants for low prices i don't know why those are so high. I got my first nep for 12 bucks and it was over a foot tall with 5 inch pitchers. I think it would be cheapest if Treaqum gave you some for free though. Hey Tre, come take a vacation here in Jan Jose!
Update: Parents convinced to allow me to keep greenhouse heated over winter. Most species will not be lost. Too lazy to update growlist.

I own several Carnivorous Plants including a couple Venus Fly Traps, a sundew, a butterwort and a pitcher plant. I think the pitcher plant is Sarracenia 'Judith Hindle' since that is what the "Savage Garden" has a picture of. I water the plants with distilled and rain water. My Pitcher Plant seems to be growing oddly though. Some of the pitchers are deformed. All twisted and everything. The plant gets full sunlight though. What should I do? I have only had it two weeks. My other plants seem happy. I keep looking but Carnivorous Plants are so expensive. The local Ace Hardware has Tropical pitcher plants for $33. Are all tropical pitcherplants this expensive?
WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!??! $33?!?!?!?!?
You ARE kidding me!
Here they sell them for 10 online which is about $14:50

Welcome aboard Gulfensis! We are very glad to have you here and I hope you stick around, make some new like-minded friends and learn a lot about CPs.

I would suspect that in regards to your pitcher plant, its probably phyllodia leaves you are seeing. OR the plant received poor care where you got it from (very common). Give it some time. With proper care it will make new pitchers and start to grow correctly.

Also...don't forget to check out the Sarracenia forum. We have the forums broken up to specific plant families so you can get more specific information.

Plant prices can really vary depending on species and rarity. Nepenthes tend to be more expensive. With any kind of plant, the general rule of thumb is the slower they grow and/or the harder to propagate, the more expensive they are. Plants that reproduce easily from seed...say Drosera capensis...will be a lot cheaper and easier to find that say a nep which is harder to propagate.

You might find yourself hopelessly addicted as well all are here.

Good luck and thanks for the introduction.
