i found it hard to beleive, but he was banded by a local breeder whom kept records. i aquirred him 6 years ago, and he hads a missing middle toe, probably from getting it caught somewhere. his band color, number ad date(its a #on the band) and injury is consistant with a bird he bread. most breeders keep a individualized type of band, so we know it is the same bird. Most of my other birds are unbanded or have bands wich i have been unable to trace the sorce. i was shocked because i tought it was pretty old but the breeder said it wasn' t all too uncommon for these birds to live to that age with proper diet and housing, altough he shouldnt be exppected to live many more years. If any pet is expected to live to its maximum life epxpectancy, it should be given a healthy, balanced diet and plenty of exersize. After that and health care, youv done all you can exept to love it.

Trapper7 im so glad u adeopted a rat. there are many out there in need of good homes. i was in charge of the rats at the animal shelter and most were sweet-natured creatures in desperate need of a home. I wish more people would adopt rats, these animals need homes.
    that makes no logic

Thanks Finch. I feel for you in your position. It is very hard when we see our pets approaching the end. I remember last year at this time I knew I was putting him down on the 9th. I remember thinking "I wish I could project myself a year into the future so this would be all done and over." But here it is a year later and its really no easier. Its not on the surface of my mind as much but certainly come up often...especially right now.

And that is a really old bird! Just like ME!

I remember balling my eyes out when my sisters cat died. It was really mean to other people and hated men. She got the cat in Saudi so it was part wild. That was back in the 1900's.

Well, this isn't a picture of one of my rats, I got it off of the internet. But it cracks me up everytime I see it. I'm hoping it'll make you feel a *tiny* bit better.
