Telomerase activity (not telemore shortening) is associated with cancer, basically if you infer telomerase activity, say, in a mouse cell that doesn't naturally have telomerase, it could become cancerous. So 'taking' telomerase won't help (it's an enzyme, your stomach would digest it anyhow).
The reason that shortened telomeres are suspected to be involved in aging is from the observation that when DNA shortens to the end of the telomere (it is shortened everytime it replicates), the cells stop replicating. Many scientist do believe that telomerase does play a role in aging, but the picture is not completely clear.
Hmm, would you really pay big bucks for some telomerase JLAP?!
