Well it's a little worse than I thought. I just went outside to chech a big ditch that runs by my house. The ditch is about 3 to 4 ft deep. It's overflowed. All the water from it has flowed into the neighborhood on the oposite side of the ditch from me. that area is now flooded. Most of my neihbors on this side of the ditch has flooded yards. My yard has some standing water, but it's really nmot bad right now.

Sure you don't want to go inland a bit?? How is the wind?

  • #23
From the looks of the tail and teeth I would say those are small mackerel.  Some fisherman caught them and probably filleted them at that spot.

You will probably lose power and water so make sure you have a gas or charcoal grill, plenty of canned goods, flashlights, plenty of batteries and fill your bathtubs with water...you will need it not only for drinking but for flushing the toilets.  A tarp or roll of heavy visqueen is reccommended in case you have roof damage.

Good luck Ozzy and keep your head down.

No This is too much fun.

I was thinking they were blues. I don't think a fisherman would have hide them under a tree. They could have been filleted somewhere else and then an animal dragged them to it's hiding spot. But most fisherman would have thrown the remains back into the water. Well who knows.

I have already prepared for the hurricane, got all my suppies and all that. I ordered Dominos 3 large one topping pizzas for $7 each last night, so I got plenty to eat too.

Right now we have had about 8 inches of rain. and the flooding is getting a little worse. The eye is really close to moving onshore.

WOW!! Ten mins after my last post and things have really changed.
As soon as I finished the last post, I looked out my door and now half my yard is underwater too.
I went out and got some pics, give me a few mins to upload and post.

Remember there are D.capillaris in some of the ditches that you see in the pics.
The last pic was of some trees that have limbs missing, but the wind and rain didn't let me get a clear shot.
The pics that I took through the trees is of the development across the ditch that's flooded. Believe it or not that is a road that's under water.

I just heard a horn blowing over and over and I looked out and I saw a car. I went out to see if somebody needed help and as I was going runnig through my yard to get to them I had to run throught the water. The water is up to my knees! It sure didn't look that deep. The water is almost up to my door now.

Oh, I forgot to mention that water wings can be helpful.  Just kidding Oz.  I do not mean to make light of your perdicament.
Is that flooding from the rain...or storm surge???
I wish you the best of luck and stay safe.
Let us know how things are going.

  • #31
The flooding is all from rain. I'm about a mile from the ocean and I really don't have to worry about storm surg. Hey email me some water wings, I might need em.

I like this blow by blow reporting of the storm. I feel like I have a direct connection to a CNN reporter.

Don't use up all the rain. We're waiting for some of it too. Selfish southerners.

PAK...are you not supposed to be working at this hour of the day?

  Shhhhhhhhhh!

I'm on a storm watch!  This is SERIOUS stuff.  Much more important that ol' work.

Ozzy... are you trying to say something?  Like...that I'm short?  All that means is I can bite your knees.

Hey...where are the latest pics? You are supposed to be making hourly reports.

Here, it cloudy with fat, black-bottomed cumulus clouds and little bit of a breeze every now and then. I hear its going to miss Richmond but that's disappointing as we desperately need the rain. We have not had any in a loooong time...and I'm almost out of water.

I'm not selfish, come get all you want. I got plenty to go around.

I can't take a nap? I'll go get the latest in a few mins. I'll put back on my wet clothes and go see what I can find.

I just got back home. I took a ride around to see what has happened to the neighborhood. Worse than I thought. The stroms winds are now 85mph, and is forecasted to streghten even more. It can become a cat. 2 storm soon. But unless it turns around I won't have to worry about that.
The place I live has one way in, and there is a tree down blocking the road. So I couldn't leave even if I wanted to.

Almost every yard is flooded.
I'll post the pics just as soon as I'm done uploading them.

I got the pics uploaded. Sorry that it took so long but I had some problem with my pic hoster.

This first pic was taken from my back door. You really can't see the flooding but the ground is completly covered in water.

The next pic is of a pic tree that snapped off about half way up. I have no idea where the top of the tree ended up. This was also taken from my back door. It's really hard to see.

This is my next door neighbor. It's a tree that fell on their porch.

The next pics are just yards that are flooded.

Here's the street sign at the end of my street.

Here's a road that goes into another development. I don't think anybody will be entering or leving there for awhile.

20838356RL444087786.jpg

Here another street that's flooded. Notice the ripples in the water, it shows how fast the water was moving.
